Background

Panama made their Olympic debut at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, Netherlands. They competed sporadically until the 1960s. Since the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy, Panama have only missed the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Soviet Union after taking part in the United States-led boycott. The 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia marked their 13th appearance at the Olympics. [1]
