Centro Escolar University is a private university in Manila, Philippines. It was founded on June 3, 1907 by two women, Librada Avelino and Carmen de Luna, and was originally called Centro Escolar de Señoritas. It became a university in 1933. Originally, its Parañaque campus was part of the university's system until it was phased out in the early 1990s.

Escolar

The escolar, Lepidocybium flavobrunneum, a species of fish in the family Gempylidae, is found in deep tropical and temperate waters around the world. It is also known as snake mackerel, walu walu, and is sometimes sold as "butterfish" or "white tuna", a matter aggravated by potential health problems related to consumption of escolar, also giving rise to the mocking name ex-lax fish.

Oilfish Species of fish

The oilfish is a species of snake mackerel fish with a cosmopolitan distribution in tropical and temperate oceans. It can be found at depths of from 100 to 800 metres, usually between 200 to 400 metres. It can grow to a length of 300 centimetres (120 in) TL though most do not exceed 150 centimetres (59 in) SL. The maximum recorded weight is 63.5 kilograms (140 lb). It is currently the only known member of its genus.

Centro Escolar Las Piñas

Centro Escolar Las Piñas (CELP) formerly known as Las Piñas College is a school located in Pilar Village, Almanza, Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The school was founded 1973, when, Dr. Faustino Legaspi Uy opened the School of Nursing with the Graduate of Nursing (GN) Program using the Las Piñas General Hospital – that eventually became Dr. Faustino L. Uy Medical Foundation – as the clinical division. Initially created to provide a Nursing program, over the years the school has evolved to provide kindergarten, primary and secondary schooling, along with several bachelors programs and a masters program. It has been acquired by Centro Escolar University in 2015 and now serves as a satellite campus of the university.

Palimphyes is an extinct genus of prehistoric euzaphlegid bony fish related to the escolars and snake mackerels. The various species lived as deepwater mesopelagic predators in the Tethys and Paratethys oceans, with fossils of ten species found in Paleocene to Oligocene strata of the Swiss Alps, the Carpathian and Caucasus Mountains, Iran, India, and Turkmenistan.

This species grows to a length of 33 centimetres (13 in) SL though most do not exceed 20 centimetres (7.9 in) SL. This species is important as a food fish to local populations. This species is the only known member of its genus.

<i>Promethichthys prometheus</i> Species of fish

Promethichthys prometheus, the Roudi escolar, is a species of snake mackerel native to the warm temperate and tropical waters of all the oceans where it occurs at depths of from 80 to 800 metres. This species grows to a length of 100 centimetres (39 in) SL though most do not exceed 40 centimetres (16 in) SL. It is important to local peoples as a food fish and is popular as a game fish though it has been reported to carry the ciguatera toxin. It is also utilized as bait. This species is the only known member of its genus.

Rexea is a genus of snake mackerels found in the Indian and Pacific oceans. It feeds on fishes, crustaceans and cephalopods.

Rexichthys johnpaxtoni, the Paxton's escolar, is a species of snake mackerel found in the western Pacific Ocean from around Australia and New Caledonia where it is found at depths of from 270 to 470 metres. This species grows to a length of 22 centimetres (8.7 in) SL. This species is the only known member of its genus, the specific name honours John R. Paxton, a curator of the collection of fishes of the Australian Museum in Sydney.

Tongaichthys robustus, the Tonga escolar, is a species of snake mackerel known from the Tonga Ridge near Fiji and off of Queensland, Australia from Flinders Reef. It is known to occur at depths of from 288 to 312 metres. This species grows to a length of 30 centimetres (12 in) SL. This species is the only known member of its genus.
