Patrick George Atkinson is a South African politician who has served as a Democratic Alliance Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Previously he served as a City of Johannesburg municipal councillor from 2019 to 2022 and as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Economic Development and as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa between 2014 and 2019.
Prior to the 7 May 2014 general election,Atkinson was ranked 70th on the Democratic Alliance's national list and 20th on its regional Gauteng list. [1] At the election,Atkinson won a seat in the National Assembly. He was sworn in as a Member of Parliament on 21 May 2014. [1]
On 5 June 2014,the DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane appointed him as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Economic Development,deputising for Kobus Marais. [2] He became a member of the Portfolio Committee on Economic Development on 20 June 2014.
In 2018,his committee attendance rate was 93%. [1] Atkinson was placed 34th on the DA's provincial list for the 2019 Gauteng Provincial Legislature election. He was not elected as the DA only won 20 seats in the legislature. [3] Atkinson did not return to the National Assembly. [1]
Soon after the 2019 election,Atkinson was sworn in as a PR councillor for the DA in Johannesburg. [4] On 17 March 2020,he was announced as the DA's shadow MMC (member of the mayoral committee) for finance. [5]
On 10 February 2022,he was sworn in as a DA Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. He serves on the Finance Committee. [6]
Atkinson is openly gay. [7]
Makashule Gana is a South African politician who served as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the opposition Democratic Alliance. He was previously a member of the National Assembly,where he was Shadow Minister of Human Settlements between 2014 and 2016. Gana also served as the Deputy Federal Chairperson of the DA until 2015. Mmusi Aloysias Maimane is a South African politician,businessman,and Leader of Build One South Africa,a political party. Maimane is also the former Leader of South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) political party from 10 May 2015 to 23 October 2019,and the former Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from 29 May 2014 to 24 October 2019. He is the former leader of the DA in the Johannesburg City Council and the DA National Spokesperson. In 2011,he was elected to be the DA's Johannesburg mayoral candidate in the 2011 municipal elections. In that election,Maimane helped to grow the party's voter base,but was not elected mayor. Thereafter he served as Leader of the Official Opposition on the Johannesburg City Council until May 2014. In addition to his political career,he is also a pastor and elder at Liberty Church. He formed the One South Africa Movement in 2020. Mmusi Maimane launched this new political party on 24 September 2022
Thomas Charles Ravenscroft Walters is a South African politician of the Democratic Alliance (DA) who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. He served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014. In 2012,Walters was elected Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance,and has been deputising Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille since 2019. He deputised James Selfe from 2012 to 2019. Walters was the party's Shadow Minister and Shadow Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform.
Andricus Pieter van der Westhuizen is a South African politician who has served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since May 2019. He served as a Member of the National Assembly from May 2009 until May 2019. Van der Westhuizen is a member of the Democratic Alliance.
Michéle Odette Clarke is a South African politician serving as the Democratic Alliance's Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises since December 2020. She was the Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration from June 2019 to December 2020. She was elected to the National Assembly in May 2019.
