Petrus Johannes "Pieter" Groenewald is a South African politician. He has served as the Leader of the Freedom Front Plus since his election in November 2016. He started his political career by being elected Mayor of Stilfontein in 1988. He relinquished the position in 1989 due to his election to the House of Assembly. Groenewald co-founded the Freedom Front in 1994, and served as a Member of the National Assembly until his election to the North West Provincial Legislature in 1999. He returned to the National Assembly in 2001.
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. The Constitutional Court dismissed the application to postpone the date until 2022, ruling that they had to take place between 27 October and 1 November. On 9 September 2021, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that the elections would be held on 1 November.
The 2019 Gauteng provincial election was held on 8 May 2019, concurrently with the 2019 South African general election, to elect the 73 members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Marcelle Frieda Maritz is a South African politician who has been serving as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. She is a member of the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and the party's provincial leader. She served as a municipal councillor of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality prior to her appointment to provincial legislature. Maritz was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) until 2015, when she resigned from the party after allegations of racism. The DA soon laid criminal charges regarding racism against her in 2019.
Tamarin "Tammy" Breedt is a South African politician who is the national youth leader of the Freedom Front Plus. She has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2019. She was previously a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature. Breedt was married to fellow FF Plus MP Wouter Wessels.
Philippus Adriaan van Staden, known as Philip van Staden, is a South African politician from Gauteng. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) since 2019. He previously represented the FF+ in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. Van Staden was a municipal councillor of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality from 2011 to 2014.
Refiloe Nt'sekhe is a South African politician who has been a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2014. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she served as one of the party's deputy federal chairpersons between 2015 and 2023 and as one of the party's national spokespeople between 2015 and 2020.
De Wet Nel is a South African politician who has served as a Member of North West Provincial Legislature for the Freedom Front Plus since May 2019. In June 2019, he was appointed chairperson of the Standing Committee on Oversight of the North West Provincial Legislature. Nel was previously a councillor of the Rustenburg Local Municipality.
Bertha Peace Mabe is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since February 2017. She previously served in the National Assembly from May 2014 until August 2016. She served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng between May 2009 and April 2014. Mabe is a member of the African National Congress and the party's unsuccessful 2016 Mogale City mayoral candidate.
Michéle Odette Clarke is a South African politician. A member of the Democratic Alliance, Clarke served as a councillor in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality from 2004 until her election to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as a DA representative in 2014. After serving one term in the provincial legislature, Clarke was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in 2019. She currently serves as Shadow Minister of Health after previously serving as Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration and as Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises.
Erns Kleynhans is a South African politician currently serving as a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature for the Freedom Front Plus. Kleynhans served as a councillor of the Matlosana Local Municipality from 2016 to 2019.
Lebogang Ludwig More was a South African politician who served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from August 2013 to June 2021, representing the Democratic Alliance. He was the DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Sports Arts, Culture and Recreation. Previously, he served as a PR councillor in the Mogale City Local Municipality.
Alan Joseph Fuchs is a South African politician and a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the Democratic Alliance. He is currently the DA's Shadow MEC for Infrastructure Development.
Humphrey Mmemezi is a South African politician and civil servant who has served as a Member of the National Assembly from March 2023. He previously served in the National Assembly between 2014 and 2019 and served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works from 2017. He was formerly a Member of the Executive Council for Local Government and Housing in the Gauteng provincial government from 2010 to 2012. He resigned from the provincial government in July 2012 when he was found guilty of contravening the legislature's code of conduct and ethics, including in using his government credit card for personal expenses.
