Matome Kopano Chiloane is a South African politician who has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in Gauteng since October 2022. He has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since March 2018,representing the African National Congress. He formerly served as the chairperson of the education committee in the legislature. Chiloane is also the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League.
In August 2014,Chiloane was elected chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League in Gauteng. [1]
On 20 March 2018,he was sworn in as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. He replaced former premier Paul Mashatile. [2]
Chiloane was elected to a full term in the 2019 provincial election. He was appointed chairperson of the education committee in the legislature. [3]
On 7 October 2022,Chiloane was appointed MEC for Education. [4]
Paul Shipokosa Mashatile is a South African politician who is currently the Treasurer General and acting Secretary General of the governing African National Congress (ANC). Formerly an anti-apartheid activist in the United Democratic Front,he was a member of President Jacob Zuma's first cabinet,serving as Minister of Arts and Culture between 2010 and 2014. Barbara Dallas Creecy is a South African politician and previous anti-apartheid activist. A member of the African National Congress,she is currently serving as Minister of Environment,Forestry and Fisheries,and as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. She previously served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,having been elected in 1994. In 2004,she was named Gauteng MEC for Sports,Recreation,Arts and Culture. She served until 2009 when she was appointed MEC for Education. Newly elected premier David Makhura moved Creecy to the Gauteng Finance portfolio in 2014.
Andrek Lesufi known professionally as Panyaza Lesufi,is a South African politician who is the 7th premier of Gauteng. He served as the Gauteng MEC for Education from May 2014 until October 2022,despite a brief interruption in May 2019. He was appointed the Gauteng MEC for Finance and e-Government in May 2019,but returned to the post of Education MEC a day later. Lesufi is also a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress (ANC) and the Chairperson of the party in the province,as well as a member of the South African Communist Party.
