The Philadelphia Force are a United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) professional women's field lacrosse team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have played in the UWLX since the 2016 season. In the 2016 season, the four teams in the UWLX will play on a barnstorming format, with all four teams playing at a single venue.
The Philadelphia Force is one of the original four teams of the United Women's Lacrosse League (MLL). UWLX was founded by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby in a strategic partnership with STX. [1] On February 23, 2016, Caitlin Jackson was announced as the first general manager in franchise history. [2] On March 17, 2016, Missy Doherty was announced as the Force's first head coach. [3]
The first game in franchise history took place on May 28, 2016 at Goodman Stadium at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Opposing the Boston Storm, Philadelphia lost by a 16–8 mark. The team's first-ever goal was scored by Rebecca Lynch, with Hilary Bowen logging the assist. Bridget Bianco would register 11 saves in the loss.

The Boston Cannons, formerly known as Cannons Lacrosse Club, is a professional men's field lacrosse team in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL). Formerly based in Boston, Massachusetts, they played in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) from their inaugural 2001 season to 2020. The team's home field was Veterans Memorial Stadium in nearby Quincy. In the MLL, the team won two Steinfeld Cup championship games in 2011 and 2020, the latter being the MLL's final championship. The Cannons joined the PLL in 2020 following the MLL–PLL merger and were rebranded as the Cannons Lacrosse Club before later being rebranded as Boston Cannons once again when the PLL assigned home cities after the 2023 season.
Gary Charles Gait is a Canadian retired Hall of Fame professional lacrosse player and currently the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team at Syracuse University, where he played the sport collegiately. On January 24, 2017, he was named the Interim Commissioner of the United Women's Lacrosse League. He played collegiately for the Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team and professionally in the indoor National Lacrosse League and the outdoor MLL, while representing Canada at the international level. Gait has been inducted into the United States Lacrosse National Hall of Fame and the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame.

The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) was a women's lacrosse league in the United States. It was co-founded in Boston, Massachusetts, by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby of the Play It Forward Sports Foundation, under the ownership of United Women's Sports LLC in a strategic partnership with STX. Penn State women's lacrosse alum and former United States national team player Michele DeJuliis was appointed as the league’s first commissioner. DeJuliis left after the 2016 season to found the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL); Kristan Ash served as the second and final league commissioner.
Devon Wills is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the Dartmouth Big Green at the collegiate level, she would become the first female player to sign a contract with the New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse. From 2007-13, Wills was a member of the United States national team. In 2016, she became the first-ever draft pick of the Long Island Sound, one of four charter franchises in the United Women's Lacrosse League.
Liz Hogan is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the Syracuse Orange at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015-16 season. In 2016, she was selected by the Boston Storm as their first-ever selection in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft.
The 2016 United Women's Lacrosse League season, the first in the history of the UWLX, started on May 28, 2016 and ended with the league championship game on July 31, 2016 in which the Long Island Sound defeated the Boston Storm in a 13-8 final.
Dana Dobbie is a Canadian women’s lacrosse player and coach. Having played with the Maryland Terrapins at the collegiate level, she has also competed with the Canadian national team, winning the silver medal at the 2013 FIL World Cup. In 2016, she was selected by the Baltimore Ride as their first-ever selection in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft. She also coaches at Loyola University.

In 2016, she was selected by the Long Island Sound with their second pick overall in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft. Leonard graduated from Northwestern as the NCAA draw control record holder.
Jazmine Smith is the founder and CEO of Eyekonz, a non-profit organization which provides sporting opportunities for African American girls aged 5 to 15 in Philadelphia through participation in field hockey and lacrosse. Smith was nominated as a White House “Changemaker” for her work with Eyekonz. She would attend the United State of Women Summit from June 14 to 15, 2016 at the White House.
