Pokrovsky District (Russian : Покро́вский райо́н) is an administrative [1] and municipal [3] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Oryol Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southeastern central part of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,411 square kilometers (545 sq mi).[ citation needed ] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Pokrovskoye. [1] Population: 14,782 (2010 Census); [4] 18,027 (2002 Census); [7] 20,056 (1989 Census). [8] The population of Pokrovskoye accounts for 30.0% of the district's total population. [4]

Russian is an East Slavic language, which is official in the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as being widely used throughout Eastern Europe, the Baltic states, the Caucasus and Central Asia. It was the de facto language of the Soviet Union until its dissolution on 25 December 1991.
