Psoloessa is a genus of slant-faced grasshoppers in the family Acrididae. There are at least four described species in Psoloessa. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
The Acrididae are the predominant family of grasshoppers, comprising some 10,000 of the 11,000 species of the entire suborder Caelifera. The Acrididae are best known because all locusts are of the Acrididae. The subfamily Oedipodinae is sometimes classified as a distinct family Oedipodidae in the superfamily Acridoidea. Acrididae grasshoppers are characterized by relatively short and stout antennae, and tympana on the side of the first abdominal segment.
These four species belong to the genus Psoloessa:
Psoloessa delicatula, the brown-spotted range grasshopper, is a species of slant-faced grasshopper in the family Acrididae. It is found in North America.
Psoloessa texana, the Texas spotted range grasshopper, is a species of slant-faced grasshopper in the family Acrididae. It is found in North America.
