Zhongshan is a prefecture-level city in the south of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province,China. As of the 2020 census,the whole city with 4,418,060 inhabitants is now part of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen conurbation with 65,565,622 inhabitants. The city-core subdistricts used to be called Shiqi or Shekki.
Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city located on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong province,People's Republic of China,on the southeastern edge of the Pearl River Delta. Its name literally means "pearl sea",which originates from the city's location at the mouth of the Pearl River meeting the South China Sea. Xiangshan County,also spelled Hsiangshan,Siangshan,Heungsan,and Heungshan,was a former county in Southern China. From 1912,it was a county in Guangdong Province,in the Republic of China. It was renamed Zhongshan in April 1925,in honor of the founder of the Republic of China,Sun Yat Sen,a Xiangshan native.

This area is separated from the mainland by a narrow waterway,and has a population of about 2.8 million. At the southern tip of the island is the peninsular part of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The rest of the island is part of the cities of Zhongshan and Zhuhai.
John Robert Morrison was a British interpreter and colonial official in China. Born in Macau,his father was Robert Morrison,the first Protestant missionary in China. After his father's death in 1834,Morrison replaced him as Chinese Secretary and Interpreter to the Superintendents of British Trade in China. In 1843,he was appointed as Acting Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong and a member of the Executive and Legislative Councils,but died eight days later in Hong Kong from fever.
SS Zhongshan,formerly romanized as Chung Shan,was a Chinese gunboat built in Japan in 1913. It was originally known as SS Yongfeng,before being renamed in 1925 in honor of Sun Yat-sen. Zhongshan was sunk by the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Second Sino-Japanese War,but was later raised and restored as a museum ship in Wuhan.

Guangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway or Guangzhu intercity railway is a dedicated,grade-separated regional railway linking Guangzhou South railway station in Panyu,Guangzhou,Jiangmen railway station in Xinhui,Jiangmen,and Zhuhai Jinwan Airport in Zhuhai,via Shunde,Zhongshan and Jiangmen,in Guangdong province. Chun Afong was a Chinese businessman and philanthropist who settled in the Hawaiian Kingdom during the 19th century and built a business empire in Hawaii,Macau and Hong Kong. He immigrated to Hawaii from Guangdong in 1849 and adopted the surname Afong after the diminutive form of his Cantonese given name,Ah Fong.
