Overview

This train is operated by Indian Railways, connecting Rani Kamalapati (Habibganj), Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Jn, Gwalior Jn, Agra Cantt. and Hazrat Nizamuddin. It is currently operated with train numbers 20171/20172 on 6 days a week basis except Saturday. [4]

Rakes

It is the ninth 2nd Generation Vande Bharat Express train and was designed and manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) under the leadership of Sudhanshu Mani at Perambur, Chennai under the Make in India initiative.

Service

The 20171/20172 Rani Kamalapati (Habibganj) - Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express operates 6 days a week, covering a distance of 702 km (436 mi) in a travel time of 7 hrs 30 mins with an average speed of 94 km/h (58 mph). The Maximum Permissible Speed is 160 km/h (99 mph). [5] [6]

Incidents

On 28 March 2023, days before its launch, the train met with a cattle incident, which damaged the nose cone of the train. This incident took place when it was conducting trial runs ahead of its scheduled launch on 1 April 2023. No casualties were reported during this incident. [7]

On 21 April 2023, another cattle hit happened near Gwalior during a regular service towards Bhopal, resulting in damage to the train's front portion. [8]

On 17 July 2023, fire broke out in the battery box of one of the coaches near Bina Junction railway station. No casualty was reported. [9] [10]

According to 1997-98 railway budget, pantry car service was introduced on 2633/2634 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Chennai Rajdhani Express in 1996-97 and maybe it was introduced then (1996–97). Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express used to terminate at Madras (Chennai) Central and presently avoids Chennai and it is older than the current Chennai Rajdhani Express and this Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express was first introduced in 1993 and runs twice a week from Delhi and twice from Chennai. The Chennai Rajdhani is a fast alternative to the classic Grand Trunk Express and the modern Superfast Tamil Nadu Express. The Chennai Rajdhani Express covers a distance of 2176 kilometers in 28 hours 10 minutes as compared to 33 hours and 5 min covered by Tamil Nadu Express and 35 hours and 15 minutes taken by Grand Trunk Express. It gets WAP4 from SCR's Vijaywada electric shed. It shares the record of being the second fastest train between Chennai Central and Hazrat Nizamuddin covering the distance of 2175 km in 28 hours and 10 minutes as Chennai Duronto covering the 2174 km journey in 27 hours and 55 minutes but in return it does not happen.

Hazrat Nizamuddin–Rani Kamalapati Express is a daily Superfast train service, connecting Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, India and New Delhi. It has the distinction of being the fastest 'non-Shatabdi', 'non-Rajdhani' and 'non-Sampark Kranti' train in India. The Shaan–E–Bhopal Express is the prestigious, one of the "first" ISO 9002 certified train of India, having high security features and high priority on the Indian Railways. The train is known for its cleanliness and maintenance also defining mindset of Bhopal which itself is cleanest state capital in India.
