The Tennessee River is the largest tributary of the Ohio River. It is approximately 652 miles (1,049 km) long and is located in the southeastern United States in the Tennessee Valley. The river was once popularly known as the Cherokee River, among other names, as many of the Cherokee had their territory along its banks, especially in eastern Tennessee and northern Alabama. Its current name is derived from the Cherokee village Tanasi.
The Southeastern United States is broadly, the eastern portion of the Southern United States, and the southern portion of the Eastern United States. It comprises at least a core of states on the lower Atlantic seaboard and eastern Gulf Coast. Expansively, it includes everything south of the Mason-Dixon line, the Ohio River and the 36°30' parallel, and as far west as Arkansas and Louisiana. There is no official U.S. government definition of the region, though various agencies and departments use different definitions.

The United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee is the federal trial court for most of Middle Tennessee. Based at the Estes Kefauver Federal Building and United States Courthouse in Nashville, it was created in 1839 when Congress added a third district to the state. Tennessee—along with Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan—is located within the area covered by United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and appeals are taken to that court.

Bernice Bouie Donald is a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The Senate confirmed her in a 96–2 vote on September 6, 2011. She received her commission on September 8, 2011. She previously served for 15 years as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Before that, she was a bankruptcy judge for nearly eight years, and a Tennessee state court judge handling criminal cases for six years.

Reagantown is a hamlet in the Township of East Huntingdon in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
