The Rescuer City distinction is an honorary award established by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to celebrate the humanitarianism, charity, and solidarity that different foreign cities shared with the Ukrainian people to defend the ideals of freedom, peace, and democracy. The award also represents the support given the city's residents to Ukraine's defense of its national independence and sovereignty while resisting against Russia's armed aggression during its invasion of Ukraine.

The distinction is given to cities of foreign states whose residents provided substantial humanitarian protection and other kinds of assistance to citizens of Ukraine forced to leave the nation during the invasion, as well as for those who gave significant support to the nation of Ukraine in its defense of its national identity, culture, and self-determination. The Cross of Military Merit is a state award of Ukraine, a distinction of the President of Ukraine established to recognize servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine for outstanding personal bravery and courage or an outstanding heroic act during a combat mission in conditions of danger to life and direct contact with the enemy; outstanding success in commanding troops (forces) during military (combat) operations.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1st Presidential Operational Brigade (Ukraine)</span> National Guard of Ukraine unit

The 1st Presidential Operational Brigade named after Hetman Petro Doroshenko "Bureviy" is a unit of the National Guard of Ukraine, and is part of the Northern Operational Zone. The brigade was formed in 2014 in response to the beginning of the War in Donbas.
