This articles presents detailed results of the Japanese 2017 general election of members of the House of Representatives. It lists all elected Representatives in the 289 single-member districts and the 11 regional proportional representation (PR) blocks. Subsequent by-elections and the PR block replacement candidates to be elected later without additional vote in cases of death, resignation or disqualification (kuriage-tōsen) are not listed.

Contents

District results are only for winners, runners-up and any other candidates that received above 20% of the vote; in the following format: Candidate (nominating – endorsing parties) vote share. Endorsements by parties that have not nominated any candidates themselves are not included. Party affiliations are as of election day, subject to change at any time, composition may have already changed by the opening session of the first post-election Diet (see the List of members of the Diet of Japan).

General elections were held in Japan on 22 October 2017. Voting took place in all Representatives constituencies of Japan – 289 single-member districts and eleven proportional blocks – in order to appoint all 465 members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the then 707-member bicameral National Diet of Japan. Incumbent Prime Minister Shinzō Abe's governing coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Komeito party retained their seats in signs of what was perceived as weak opposition. The PM won his fourth term in office and held on to the two-thirds supermajority in order to implement policies on revising the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution.

House of Councillors elections were held in Japan on Sunday 10 July 2016 to elect 121 of the 242 members of the House of Councillors, the upper house of the National Diet, for a term of six years. As a result of the election, the Liberal Democratic Party–Komeito coalition gained ten seats for a total of 145, the largest coalition achieved since the size of the house was set at 242 seats.

The Democratic Party, abbreviated as DP, was a political party in Japan. It was the largest opposition political party in Japan from 2016 until its marginalization in the House of Representatives in 2017. The party was founded on 27 March 2016 from the merger of the Democratic Party of Japan and the Japan Innovation Party. The majority of the party split on 28 September 2017, before the 2017 general election. Many of its members contesting the election as candidates for the Party of Hope, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan or as party members without nomination. On 7 May 2018 the DP merged with the Party of Hope to form the Democratic Party For the People.

A by-election for the Hokkaido-5th seat in the Japanese House of Representatives was held on 24 April 2016, coinciding with another by-election in Kyoto. The by-election was triggered by the death of the sitting member, former Speaker of the House and Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura from cerebral infarction in Osaka on 1 June 2015. Machimura, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, was a long-serving representative for the district, holding the seat almost continuously between 1996 and 2015. The seat has been considered safe for the LDP, with Machimura retaining it on a 14.1% margin in the 2014 general election.

The Japanese National Proportional Representation Block, known in Japan as the House of Councillors proportional district is an electoral district for the House of Councillors, the upper house of the National Diet of Japan. It consists of the whole nation and elects 50 members per election, 100 in total, by D'Hondt method proportional representation (PR).

First no Kai is a Japanese political party. The party was founded in October 2021 as a sister party of Tomin First no Kai, a political party that is based in and only competes in the city of Tokyo. Tomin First no Kai is the second largest political party in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, but the party previously lacked any representation at the national level. Tomin First had previously created a national party called Kibō no Tō before the 2017 general election, but that party merged with the Democratic Party in 2018 to form the Democratic Party for the People.

On April 28, 2024, by-elections in Japan were held in order to fill vacancies in the National Diet of Japan.
