Ruente is a municipality in Cantabria, Spain. [2] It is situated in the lowest part of the Cabuerniga valley and it is the biggest village in the zone.
Ruente is well known for its natural water source, La Fuentona, and the medieval bridge and modern park which are situated next to it.
The Picos de Europa are a mountain range extending for about 20 km (12 mi), forming part of the Cantabrian Mountains in northern Spain. The range is situated in the Autonomous Communities of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León. The highest peak is Torre de Cerredo, at an elevation of 2650 m (8,690 ft).

As of 2016, a total of 870 people lived in Ruesga. Its economy is primarily agriculture and forestry; livestock mountain or forestal exploitation of wealth employs 53.1% of the workforce. There were almost 5,000 heads of livestock spread over 198 farms. The unemployment rate was 14.7%.

The Fontes Tamarici,, are three springs located by the geographer and Roman historian Pliny the Elder in classical Cantabria. Since the 18th century they have been identified with the source of La Reana in Velilla del Río Carrión, Palencia, Spain. The first mention of the spring, by Pliny, dates from the time of the Roman conquest of Cantabria. Pliny records that the springs were frequently dry, while other nearby springs continued to flow; he says that the springs being dry was considered to be a bad omen.
Cantabria is one of the 59 constituencies represented in the Senate of Spain, the upper chamber of the Spanish parliament, the Cortes Generales. The constituency elects four senators. Its boundaries correspond to those of the Spanish province of Cantabria. The electoral system uses limited voting, with electors voting for individual candidates instead of parties. Electors can vote for up to three candidates.
