San Diego United was an American soccer team based in San Diego, California, United States. Founded in 2008, the team was a member of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a national amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The team and Southwest Division went on hiatus from the NPSL for the 2009 season due to a lack of teams in the Southwest Division after the 2008 season. As of 2010 neither the Southwest Division nor SD United are listed as being part of NPSL.

The team played its home games in Torero Stadium. The team's colors were black, white, red and gold.

The team had a sister organization, also called San Diego United, which plays in the Women's Premier Soccer League.

It has been announced that the team will play its 2009 season at Folsom High School as part of the United Soccer League.

The 2009 National Premier Soccer League season was the 7th season of the NPSL. The season began on May 2, 2009, and ended with the NPSL Championship Game in August 2009. Sonoma County Sol finished the season as national champions, beating Erie Admirals 2-1 in the championship game on August 1, 2009.

The 2010 National Premier Soccer League season is the 8th season of the NPSL. The season began on April 3, 2010, and ended with the NPSL Championship Game in August. The NPSL had planned for form a Winter league that would play from September 2010 to March 2011 but when only three clubs were willing to participate the plans were dropped. Those three clubs eventually ended up forming the SPSL for that Fall, though that league would fold the following Spring.

Sports in San Diego includes one major professional sports team, several teams from minor professional leagues, semi-pro and amateur teams, and college teams, in addition to other sporting events. The most popular sports team in San Diego is the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). Also popular are the college sports teams of the San Diego State Aztecs, which play in NCAA Division I.

The 2013 National Premier Soccer League season was the 101st season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer in the United States, and the 11th season of the NPSL. The season began in May 2013. FC Sonic Lehigh Valley were the defending champions, having won their first NPSL title the previous season. The league held their Annual General Managers meeting (AGM) during the weekend of the NASL Soccer Bowl in Atlanta in November.

San Diego Boca FC is an American soccer team based in San Diego, California, United States. Founded in 2009, the team played in National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a national amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Northwest Division. In 2014, the club is renamed FC Force and dissolved at the end of the season.

Soccer has enjoyed longstanding popularity in Los Angeles. As of 2019 there are two professional soccer clubs in Los Angeles County that play in Major League Soccer: LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC.
