Loeske

Sanionia is a genus of mosses belonging to the family Scorpidiaceae. [1]

The genus has cosmopolitan distribution, [1] and was circumscribed by Leopold Loeske in Verh. Bot. Vereins. Prov. Brandenburg vol.49 on page 63 in 1907.

The genus is named after Karl Gustav Sanio (1832–1891). [2]

Philipp Wilhelm Albrecht Zimmermann was a German botanist. He was a Professor of Botany at several different Universities . He was a botanist and collector of fungi and spermatophytes, who worked in Indonesia and Tanzania from 1902 to 1919. He moved to Indonesia in 1896 and studied applied botany. In 1902 he moved to Africa to join the Amani Research Institute that was established that year. He returned to Germany after World War I in 1920. He wrote about the cultivation of coffee among other things related to botany, but most of his writings were destroyed during World War II.

Karl Gustav Sanio was a Prussian botanist and served as a professor of botany at the University of Königsberg. He observed patterns in the growth of plant vasculature and wrote several articles on the organization of wood and cambium. He examined patterns in the size distribution of the xylem vessels in five statements known as Sanio's laws was also among the first to describe the formation of compression wood by conifers.
