The Santo Antão North Second Division is a tier-3 regional championship played in Ribeira Grande and Paul (though not listed), Santo Antão Island, Cape Verde. It is organized by the Santo Antão North Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Zona Norte do Santo Antão, ARFZNSA). [1] The winner of the championship plays in the Santo Antão North Premier Division in the following season.
Ribeira Grande is the largest town of the Ribeira Grande Municipality on the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. It has become a city in 2010. In 2010 its population was 2,564. It is situated in the northeastern part of the island, near the outflow of the river Ribeira Grande and its tributary Ribeira da Torre into the Atlantic Ocean. Neighborhoods include Tarrafal, Rua de Agua, Rua d'Horta and Penha de França.
Paul is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. Situated in the northeastern part of the island of Santo Antão, it covers 7% of the island area, and is home to 16% of its population. Its seat is the town Pombas.
Santo Antão is the westernmost island of Cape Verde. At 779 km2 (301 sq mi), it is the largest of the Barlavento Islands group, and the second largest island of Cape Verde. The nearest island is São Vicente to the southeast, separated by the sea channel Canal de São Vicente. Its population was 40,547 in 2015, making it the third most populous island of Cape Verde after Santiago and São Vicente. Its largest city is Porto Novo on the south coast.
The league are several that have second division, five clubs participate, a club with the most number of points promotes into the regional premier division the following season while the last placed club from the regional premier division relegates into the second division the following season.
The Second Division was formed in around 2011 and consisted of only three clubs and three stages, each club had a bye week for three times, the three stage system was abolished in 2015 and became two stage when it risen to four clubs with Santo Crucifixo competing for the first time and featured six matches, in the 2016/17 season, Torreense will compete for the first time and was to raise the number of matches to eight. Instead as São Pedro Apóstolo and Irmãos Unidos withdrawn due to financial and scheduling concerns, only three teams competes, the three stage system was restored and each has a bye week for three times.
Beira-Mar Desportivo Clube or Clube Desportivo Beira-Mar is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Santo Antão Island League South Zone in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Ribeira Grande in the northwestern part of the island of Santo Antão.
The 2013-14 Santo Antão Island League (North) season was the 15th competition of football and second with the second and third tier in northern part the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. Its started on 21 December 2013 and finished on 30 March 2014. The tournament was organized by the Santo Antão North Regional Football Association. Paulense won the 5th title.
The 2014-15 Santo Antão Island League (North) season was the 16th competition of football and second with the second and third tier in northern part the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. Its started on 13 December 2013 and finished on 5 April 2014. The tournament was organized by the Santo Antão North Regional Football Association. Paulense won the 6th title and qualified into the 2015 Football Championships. It would be two years that Paulense would win the next regional title.
