Sartan (Persian : سرطان‎, also Romanized as Sarţān; also known as Sartang)^[1] is a village in Mangur-e Sharqi Rural District, Khalifan District, Mahabad County, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 250, in 51 families.^[2]

Persian, also known by its endonym Farsi, is one of the Western Iranian languages within the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family. It is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and some other regions which historically were Persianate societies and considered part of Greater Iran. It is written right to left in the Persian alphabet, a modified variant of the Arabic script, which itself evolved from the Aramaic alphabet.

Khalifan District is a district (bakhsh) in Mahabad County, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 17,744, in 2,741 families. The District has no cities. The District has two rural districts (dehestan): Kani Bazar Rural District and Mangur-e Sharqi Rural District.

Mahabad County is a county in West Azerbaijan Province in Iran. The capital of the county is Mahabad. Because of its strategic position and its proximity with the border the city is a stop for many travelers. At the 2006 census, the county's population was 197,441, in 42,493 families. The county is subdivided into two districts: the Central District and Khalifan District. The county has one city: Mahabad.
