Scopeloberyx is a genus of ridgeheads.
There are currently nine recognized species in this genus: [1]
The beardfishes consist of a single extant genus, Polymixia, of deep-sea marine ray-finned fish named for their pair of long hyoid barbels. They are classified in their own order Polymixiiformes. But as Nelson says, "few groups have been shifted back and forth as frequently as this one, and they were recently added to Paracanthoptergii". For instance, they have previously been classified as belonging to the Beryciformes. They are of little economic importance.
Ridgeheads, also known as bigscales, are a family of small, deep-sea stephanoberyciform fish. The family contains approximately 37 species in five genera; their distribution is worldwide, but ridgeheads are absent from the Arctic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Although the family is one of the most widespread and plentiful of deep-sea families, none of its members are of interest to commercial fishery.
The family Torpedinidae contains 22 species of electric rays or torpedoes, flat cartilaginous fishes that produce electricity as a defense and feeding mechanism. They are slow-moving bottom-dwellers.
Myripristis is a genus of soldierfishes.
Anchovia is a genus of anchovies. It currently contains 3 species.
Microthrissa is a genus of sprats in the herring family, Dorosomatidae, which is endemic to Africa. There are five recognized species in the genus.
Aulopus is a genus of flagfins native to the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Although Aulopus is native to both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans, for the first time in 2010 Aulopus filamentosus, was spotted in Brazilian waters. A discovery like this may suggest that these fish can be found in new environments.
Chlorophthalmus is a genus of greeneyes
Polymixia is the only extant genus of the order Polymixiiformes and the only genus in Polymixiidae. It contains 10 species, all of which live in deepwater marine environments. They are found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Indian and western Pacific Oceans. They are bottom-dwelling fish, found down to about 800 m (2,600 ft). Most are relatively small fish, although one species is over 40 cm (16 in) in length.
Poromitra crassiceps, commonly called the crested bigscale is a species of deep sea fish in the ridgehead family.
Mataeocephalus is a genus of rattails.
Melamphaes is a genus of fish in the family Melamphaidae found in Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean.
Poromitra is a genus of ridgeheads. The 22 known species of Poromitra have been divided into five species groups according to variation in preopercle anatomy.
Scopelogadus is a genus of ridgeheads. The generic name derives from the Greek σκόπελος and γάδος.
Sio nordenskjoldii, or Nordenskjold's bigscale, is a species of ridgehead found in the southern oceans at depths of from 200 to 3,000 metres. This species grows to a length of 12.3 centimetres (4.8 in) SL. This species is the only known member of its genus. This species is of minor importance to commercial fisheries.
Diretmoides is a genus of spinyfins with one species (pauciradiatus) known from the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the other (veriginae) known from the eastern Indian Ocean.
Aulotrachichthys is a genus of slimeheads. Most species in this genus are known as luminous roughies.
Hoplostethus is a genus of fish in the slimehead family.
Parinoberyx horridus is a species of marine slimehead only known from the Western Pacific and the Coral Sea at depths around 300 m (980
Secutor is a genus of ponyfishes native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.
