Senecio iscoensis or Aetheolaena senecioides [3] is a flowering plant in the aster family. It is found only in subtropical and tropical dry shrubland in Ecuador. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Contents

It is known from three collections in the central and northern Andes. First recorded by Luis Sodiro, probably at the Hacienda Isco, it is also recorded from the foothills of Volcán Antisana and probably inside the reserve of the Antisana Ecological Reserve, [1] a privately owned reserve that preserves the native flora and fauna of the Northern Andean páramo. Distribution

Neotropic :

Western South America: Ecuador (Pichincha, Imbabura, Cotopaxi, Cañar) [2]

Senecioneae Tribe of flowering plants

Senecioneae is the largest tribe of the Asteraceae, or the sunflower family, comprising about 150 genera and 3,000 species. Almost one-third of the species in this tribe are placed in the genus Senecio. Its members exhibit probably the widest possible range of form to be found in the entire plant kingdom, and include annuals, minute creeping alpines, herbaceous and evergreen perennials, shrubs, climbers, succulents, trees, and semiaquatic plants.

Senecio gallicus species of flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae

Senecio gallicus, an annual plant of the genus Senecio and family Asteraceae, is a species that colonizes isolated habitats with difficult environmental conditions. It is widespread across southern France and the Iberian Peninsula in deserts and xeric shrublands, on steppes and salty dry coastal plains. S. gallicus is playing a predominant role in shaping patterns of genetic structure by presenting models of historical associations among population rather than patterns of ongoing gene flow.

Senecio antisanae is a species of Senecio in the aster family found only in the subtropical or tropical moist montane region of Ecuador. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Blechnum sociale is a species of fern in the family Blechnaceae. It is endemic to Pichincha Province and Azuay Province, Ecuador, but has not been recorded since 1893. The name sociale indicates that they form in colonies. It was first described by Sodiro in 1883. In 1893, Sodiro transferred it to Lomaria as Lomaria socialis. He said that the most similar species was Lomaria stipitellata, now placed in Parablechnum as Parablechnum stipitellatum. The status and taxonomy of Blechnum sociale was unclear as of 2003.

Ocotea rugosa is a species of evergreen tree to 10 m (33 ft) tall in the plant genus Ocotea, in the family Lauraceae. It is endemic to Andean Ecuador at an altitude of 1,700 to 2,500 m. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and cloud forest. This species requires moisture and protection of other trees for growing. The principal threats are fires, grazing, and the conversion of forest to farmland.
