Shadow: War of Succession (known in Japan as Shadow Warriors) is a 1994 fighting video game developed and published by Tribeca Digital Studios for 3DO.
Shadow: War of Succession is a fighting game that uses digitized characters. [1] [2]
The central story revolves around the death of Kinkaid Storm, the chairman of Storm International. Unbeknownst to the public, Kinkaid was also the leader of S.H.A.D.O.W., a global crime syndicate, under the title of Shadow King. With his death, some of his lieutenants and other individuals see a chance to gain power and fight each other to become the next leader of S.H.A.D.O.W.. The player must choose one of these combatants and triumph over the others.
After defeating the other fighters, the player's character goes to the Storm Building, the headquarters of Storm International and S.H.A.D.O.W., to become the next leader of the syndicate. However, they find the building in ruins and a cyborg of Kinkaid, who survived the attempt on his life, waiting for them. After defeating the reborn Shadow King, the ending for the player's chosen character plays out and the game ends.

Shadow: War of Succession garnered an extremely negative reception. Journalists of the release era universally panned every aspect of the game including its scenario; selection of fighters; gameplay; sound design; and the quality and animation of its digitized sprites. 3DO Magazine editor Mark Wynn, concluded, "Three minutes of play should guarantee Shadow’s swift exit from your 3DO player, forever banished. A definitive set of instructions on how not to write a videogame." [10] Next Generation stated, "Use the disc as a coaster for your coffee mug - you'll get more use out of it and enjoy it more." [4] VideoGames warned, "Do not buy this game under any circumstances, no matter how desperate you are to try out a new fighting game for your 3DO. You can thank me later for saving you 60 bucks." [9] Ultimate Future Games voiced similar complaints as other magazines, but did praise the introduction sequence for featuring a "very nicely rendered chopper." [8] Several publications heavily preferred Naughty Dog's Way of the Warrior , another critically maligned 3DO fighting game. Retrospectives have considered Shadow as a low-quality clone of the popular Mortal Kombat series from Midway Games. Jason Russell of WhatCulture ranked it as the fourth worst Mortal Kombat rip-off, recounting the 1994 gaming media's note of its nearly-broken gameplay mechanics. [15] Evan Hopkins of Comic Book Resources named it among 15 bad Mortal Kombat rip-offs, labeling the game "ugly, sloppy, and downright unplayable" and summarizing, "You'd probably prefer a spine-ripping over having to spend 30 seconds with this busted Mortal Kombat clone." [16] Internet video game critic James Rolfe called the game the worst of the Mortal Kombat clones in particular highlighting the controls, gameplay, and the lack of fatalities despite the presence of in-game prompts for them. [17] Writing about Mortal Kombat clones, Hardcore Gaming 101 contributor Robert E. Naytor largely faulted the rapid speed of the fights in Shadow, requiring the player to simply spam special attacks so the computer AI has no way to react. [18]
Night Trap is a 1992 interactive movie developed by Digital Pictures and published by Sega for the Sega CD. Presented primarily through full-motion video (FMV), Night Trap has the player observe teenage girls having a sleepover visiting a house which, unbeknownst to them, is infested with vampires. The player watches live surveillance footage and triggers traps to capture anyone endangering the girls. The player can switch between different cameras to keep watch over the girls and eavesdrop on conversations to follow the story and listen for clues.
Johnny Cage is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise by Midway Games and NetherRealm Studios. Introduced in the original 1992 game, he is an action movie star with an extensive martial arts background. The series depicts Cage as one of the primary heroes defending Earth realm from various threats, as well as the comic foil. In the rebooted timeline, Cage is also the love interest to Special Forces officer Sonya Blade and the father of their daughter Cassie. He is inspired by martial arts star Jean-Claude Van Damme, particularly Van Damme's character, Frank Dux, in the 1988 film Bloodsport. A staple of the franchise, Cage has appeared in various media outside of the games.
Mileena is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise by Midway Games and NetherRealm Studios. Introduced in Mortal Kombat II (1993), Mileena was initially depicted as a clone of the Edenian princess Kitana, created by Shang Tsung with the blood of the fictional Tarkatan species. Following the time-travelling actions of Raiden in Mortal Kombat 9 (2011), Mileena's background as a clone of Kitana remains the same. Mortal Kombat X (2015) depicts Mileena's attempts to regain the throne as the Empress of Outworld, following her removal by Kotal Kahn.

Kitana is a fictional character in the Mortal Kombat media franchise originally by Midway Games and later by NetherRealm Studios. Debuting in Mortal Kombat II (1993) as a player character and as a royal from the fictional realm of Edenia. She uses steel fans as her primary weapon. In the series, Kitana is aligned with multiple characters, especially Mileena who originally served as her clone, however, as the series evolves, Mileena suddenly becomes the older sister of Kitana and takes her place being the empress of Outworld. Kitana also shares the relationship as the love interest for the series' protagonist Liu Kang.

Fatality is the name given to a gameplay feature in the Mortal Kombat series of fighting video games, in which the victor of the final round in a match inflicts a brutal and gruesome finishing move onto their defeated opponent. Prompted by the announcer saying "Finish Him/Her", players have a short time window to execute a Fatality by entering a specific button and joystick or D-Pad combination, while positioned at a specific distance from the opponent. Trip'd is a puzzle video game developed by Japanese studio Warp for 3DO. Using the falling block puzzle format, Trip'd presents the player with triads of colored, tile-shaped eggs that gradually descend the screen to stack up on the bottom. The objective is to connect four or more matching eggs to eliminate them from the play field. Creatures called Deow'Nz can be formed and destroyed to create various effects depending on the number of players.
