Emile "Sid" Edwards is an American politician who is the mayor-president of Baton Rouge,Louisiana. [1] A Republican,he was elected mayor-president in a runoff election held on December 7,2024,defeating incumbent Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. [2] He would be sworn in on January 2,2025. [3]
Edwards is a newcomer to the Louisiana political stage;at 61 years-old,he is known in the local community as the long-time head football coach and dean of students at Istrouma High School. [4]

Incumbent Democratic Mayor Sharon Weston Broome was seeking re-election to a third term and placed second in the first round behind Republican Sid Edwards. Edwards defeated the incumbent Mayor Broome in the runoff election,becoming the first Republican elected mayor-president since 2000.
