The police abolition movement gained momentum in the U.S. city of Minneapolis during protests of the murder of George Floyd in 2020 and culminated in the failed Question 2 ballot measure in 2021 to replace the city's police department with a public safety department. The measure would have removed minimum staffing levels for sworn officers,renamed the Minneapolis Police Department as the Minneapolis Department of Public Safety,and shifted oversight of the new agency from the mayor's office to the city council. It required the support of 51 percent of voters in order to pass. In the Minneapolis municipal election held on November 2,2021,the measure failed with 43.8 percent voting for it and 56.2 percent voting against it.

The 2022 Kansas Attorney General election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the Attorney General of Kansas. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced he would retire to run for governor. The Republican nominee was former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach,and the Democratic nominee was former police officer,prosecutor,and state securities regulator,Chris Mann. Kobach narrowly won,taking 50.80% of the general election vote to Mann's 49.20%.
The 2022 Kansas State Treasurer election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the next Kansas State Treasurer. Incumbent Democrat Lynn Rogers was appointed on January 2,2021,after his predecessor,Jake LaTurner,resigned after being elected to Congress. Republican Steven Johnson defeated Rogers in the general election.
The 2022 Los Angeles elections were held on June 7,2022. Voters elected candidates in a nonpartisan primary,with runoff elections scheduled for November 8,2022. Eight of the fifteen seats in the City Council were up for election while three of the seven seats in the LAUSD Board of Education were up for election. The seat of Mayor of Los Angeles was up for election due to incumbent Eric Garcetti's term limit. The seats of the Los Angeles City Controller and the Los Angeles City Attorney were also up for election,as their incumbents,Mike Feuer and Ron Galperin,were running for mayor and California State Controller respectively.
