Singasari is an passenger train with both executive and economy class seating operated by Kereta Api Indonesia running between Pasar Senen and Blitar via Purwokerto and Madiun.
The journey is around 828 km (514 mil) long and takes 13 hours and 14 minutes. [1]
The name "Singasari" comes from the name of the kingdom of Siwa Buddha in the province of East Java in 1222. In addition, the name "Singasari" is taken from a sub-district in Malang Regency, Singasari Sub-district.
Before this train there was a service which served the Malang-Jakarta route via the northern route (the Senja Singosari train, with business class service), but this was discontinued on 21 September 2012 due to low demand. It was replaced by the Majapahit train. On 19 August 2016, the Singosari Express train operated on the Surabaya Gubeng-Malang route with business class service of the Mutiara Selatan series which was idle in Surabaya City, but the operation of the Singosari Express train was stopped on 25 September 2016 after 36 days due to low demand, and the route was continued by the Arjuno Express and the Jayabaya train on the Pasar Senen–Surabaya Pasar Turi–Malang route.
The Singasari train is the result of cutting the relationship from Krakatau Express, previously the longest route in 2013, Merak–Purwokerto–Madiun then extended to Kediri on 10 November 2013 and then extended again to Blitar on 1 April 2017. On 17 July 2017 due to low passenger occupancy on the Pasar Senen–Merak route since the Rangkasbitung Commuter Line as of 1 April 2017 and also to optimize the train set, replaced with Merak Local train (Rangkasbitung–Merak). At the start of operations, this train had only economy plus class, like its predecessor. As of 1 November 2018, the train began serving executive class .
On 1 June 2023, following the enactment of the new train timetable, the Singasari train exchanged train sets with the Bangunkarta train, due to the similarity in the economy train used (modified economy trains). This train exchange also aims to shorten the train's rest time at Pasar Senen Station. In connection with the change in the Argo Merbabu set to get a handover train set from Argo Sindoro/Argo Muria with the new image executive class type, starting 19 July 2025 H+2 after the anniversary, the Singasari train (along with Bangunkarta train) will use a handover train set from the 2016/2017 new image light steel train set.
