In 1907, Slate Springs was noted for having two churches, a school, a flour mill, a saw mill, and a money order post-office. [4]
Mississippi Highway 9 passes through the village, leading north 9 miles (14 km) to Calhoun City and south 16 miles (26 km) to Eupora.

The racial makeup of the village was 96.69% White, 0.83% African American, 0.83% Native American, and 1.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.83% of the population.
