So Long, Marianne is an 2024 Canadian-Norwegian romantic drama television series, which premiered on September 22, 2024. [1] The series is a dramatization of the 1960s romance between Canadian writer and musician Leonard Cohen and Marianne Ihlen, the Norwegian woman who inspired Cohen's song "So Long, Marianne". The series was created by Ingeborg Klyve and Tony Wood, and is written by Øystein Karlsen and Jo Nesbø. [2]
The series stars Alex Wolff as Cohen and Thea Sofie Loch Næss as Ihlen, [2] as well as Anna Torv as Charmian Clift, Noah Taylor as George Johnston, and Peter Stormare as Irving Layton. [3]
The supporting cast includes Macha Grenon as Cohen's mother, Éric Bruneau as Cohen's cousin Robert Hershorn, and Kim Lévesque Lizotte as Monique Mercure, as well as Robin L'Houmeau, Raphael Grosz-Harvey, Miranda Calderon, Tatiana Latreille, Ryan Bommarito, Emily Lê, Frank Fontaine, Christina Bennington, Megan Jonker, Sonia Berube, Rob Stewart, Chip Chuipka, Howard Bilerman, Avi Bendahan and Patrick Watson in supporting roles. A co-production of Norway's NRK and Canada's Crave, the series entered production in spring 2023, with shooting in Montreal, Oslo and the Greek island of Hydra. [4]
The series screened in competition at the Series Mania television festival on March 15, 2024. [5]
Hydra, or Ydra or Idra, and in antiquity Hydrea, is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between the Myrtoan Sea and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strip of water. In ancient times, the island was known as Hydrea, a reference to the natural springs on the island.

Alexander Draper Wolff is an American actor, musician, and filmmaker. He first gained recognition for starring alongside his older brother Nat in the Nickelodeon musical comedy series The Naked Brothers Band (2007–09), which was created by the boys' mother Polly Draper. Wolff and his brother released two soundtrack albums for the series, The Naked Brothers Band and I Don't Want to Go to School, which were co-produced by their father Michael Wolff. Subsequent to the conclusion of the Nickelodeon series, Wolff and his older brother formed a duo called Nat & Alex Wolff, and released the albums Black Sheep (2011), Public Places (2016) and Table for Two (2023).
