Sonia Yesenia Cruz Ayala (born c. 1990) is a Salvadoran beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Nuestra Belleza El Salvador 2010 and represented her country in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant.

Early life

A resident of San Salvador, Cruz is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management at Universidad Centroamericana "José Simeón Cañas" and will graduate in 2012.[ citation needed ]

Prior to her participation in Nuestra Belleza El Salvador, Cruz was elected queen of Fiestas Agustinas, a traditional Salvadoran festivity in memory of the Transfiguration of Jesus.[ citation needed ]

Nuestra Belleza El Salvador 2010

Cruz, who stands 1.73 m (5 ft 8 in) tall, competed as one of 15 finalists in her country's national beauty pageant, Nuestra Belleza El Salvador, held on June 25, 2010 at Telecorporación Salvadoreña studios in San Salvador, where she became the eventual winner of the title, gaining the right to represent El Salvador in Miss Universe 2010.[ citation needed ]

As the official representative of her country [ citation needed ] to the 2010 Miss Universe pageant broadcast live from Paradise, Nevada on August 23,[ citation needed ] Cruz participated as one of 83 delegates who vied for the crown of eventual winner, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.

After Miss Universe 2010, Cruz represented El Salvador in Miss Continente Americano 2010, held on September 18, 2010 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.[ citation needed ]

Thirty contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Rosa Maria Ojeda from Sinaloa, who later competed in Miss Universe 2007 in Mexico where she was a Semifinalist in the Top 10. The 8th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Aeropuerto Internacional "Lic. Adolfo López Mateos" of Toluca, Estado de México, Mexico on September 28, 2001. Forty-seven contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Ericka Cruz from Yucatán, who later competed in Miss Universe 2002 in Puerto Rico. Cruz was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Jacqueline Bracamontes. She is the first and only Yucateca and the third winner of foreign descent to win this Title.

Nuestra Belleza El Salvador 2011 took place on June 30, 2011 at the Teatro Nacional de El Salvador in San Salvador. Nuestra Belleza Universo 2010, Sonia Cruz and Nuestra Belleza Mundo 2010, Gabriela Molina crowned their perspective successors at the end of the event. 16 women participated in the event that commemorated El Salvador's bicentenary. For the first time ever 17 year old's were allowed to participate and a national costume showcase was also added to the event. The co winners represented El Salvador at Miss Universe 2011 and Miss World 2011.

The 19th annual Nuestra Belleza Mexico pageant was held at the Poliforum del Centro de Convenciones of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico on September 1, 2012. Thirty-five contestants of Mexico competed for the national title, which was won by Cynthia Duque from Nuevo León who later competed in Miss Universe 2013 in Russia. Duque was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Karina González. She is the fourth Neoleonesa to win this title.
