The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in January and February 2018 to play two Tests and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. [1] [2] Prior to the tour, both teams played in a tri-series, along with Zimbabwe. [3] [4]

In December 2017, Shakib Al Hasan was named the new captain of Bangladesh's Test squad, replacing Mushfiqur Rahim. [5] However, ahead of the Test series, Shakib suffered a hand injury during the final of the 2017–18 Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series, and Mahmudullah was named as captain of Bangladesh for the first Test. [6] It was Mahmudullah's first Test as captain and he became the tenth player to lead Bangladesh in Tests. [7] [8] Mahmudullah also captained Bangladesh for the second Test, as Shakib was still recovering from his injury. [9] Sri Lanka won the Test series 1–0, after the first match was drawn. [10]

Shakib Al Hasan was also ruled out of the T20I series, and Mahmudullah once again named as captain in his place. [11] [12] Sri Lanka won the T20I series 2–0. [13]

Sunzamul Islam and Tanbir Hayder were added to Bangladesh's squad for the first Test following the news of Shakib Al Hasan's injury. [6] Abdur Razzak was also added to Bangladesh's Test squad as cover for Shakib Al Hasan. [18] Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews missed the first Test due to injury and was later ruled out of the rest of the tour. [19] Sabbir Rahman was added to Bangladesh's squad ahead of the second Test, with Sunzamul Islam and Rubel Hossain both being dropped. [9]

Ahead of the T20I series, Shakib Al Hasan's finger injury had not yet healed and he said he would be unlikely to play in the matches, despite being named as the captain of Bangladesh's T20I squad. [20] Shakib was ruled out of the first T20I due to his injury and Nazmul Islam was added to Bangladesh's squad as his replacement. [21] Mohammad Mithun was added to Bangladesh's squad as cover for Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim. [22]

Kusal Perera was ruled out of Sri Lanka's T20I squad due to injury and was replaced by Kusal Mendis. [23] Asela Gunaratne was also ruled out of Sri Lanka's T20I squad due to injury. [24]

Balapuwaduge Kusal Gimhan Mendis, popularly known as Kusal Mendis is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays in all forms of the game and a former ODI captain of the national team. He only played sixteen first-class matches before playing for the national side. In November 2017, he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.

Wanigamuni Ramesh Tarinda Mendis is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the Sri Lanka cricket team in all three formats of the game. He was part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in January 2021.

Pasqual Handi Kamindu Dilanka Mendis, popularly known as Kamindu Mendis, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in all three formats and for Colombo Cricket Club in domestic cricket. He is an ambidextrous bowler who can bowl both right and left-arm deliveries during the same over. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in October 2018.

Athege Roshen Shivanka Silva, commonly known as Roshen Silva is a professional Sri Lankan Test cricketer who plays for the Sri Lanka national cricket team. He also plays first-class cricket for Colts Cricket Club.

The Bangladesh national cricket team toured Sri Lanka from March 2017 to April 2017. The tour consisted of a series of two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 internationals (T20Is). The second Test match of the tour was the 100th Test played by Bangladesh. The tour also featured a two-day warm-up match ahead of the Test fixtures and a one-day warm-up match ahead of the ODIs. The Test series was played for the Joy Bangla Cup in honour of the father of the Bangladesh nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The 2018 Nidahas Trophy was a T20 cricket tournament that was held in Sri Lanka in March 2018. It was a tri-nation series between Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. Each team played each other twice, with two teams progressing to the final. The tournament was played to celebrate Sri Lanka's 70th year of independence; the title derives from the Sinhalese නිදහස් nidahas, meaning "freedom." Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the matches would be played as Twenty20 International fixtures. The fixtures and venue were announced in November 2017, with all the matches played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This was the first occasion that Discovery Networks Asia Pacific channel DSport acquired media rights to broadcast live cricket matches involving the Indian cricket team.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2017–18 Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series</span> International cricket tournament

The 2017–18 Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series was a cricket tournament that took place in January 2018. It was a tri-nation series between Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, with all the matches played as One Day Internationals (ODIs). The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium hosted all the matches. The second ODI was the 100th to be played at the venue and in the third match, Bangladesh recorded their biggest win in ODIs, beating Sri Lanka by 163 runs.

Mohammad Shoriful Islam is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his international debut for the Bangladesh cricket team in March 2021.

Bodiyabaduge Oshada Piyumal Fernando, commonly as Oshada Fernando, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays all formats of the game. He plays for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club in domestic cricket, and he made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in February 2019. The Bangladesh cricket team toured Sri Lanka in April and May 2021 to play two Test matches. The Test series formed part of the inaugural 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured Bangladesh in February and March 2020 to play one Test match, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. On 26 January 2020, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the itinerary for the tour. It was the first time that a tour between the two sides featured a one-off Test match. Zimbabwe last toured Bangladesh in October and November 2018, and last won a series in the country during their tour in November 2001. On 9 February, the BCB moved the three ODI matches from Chittagong to the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, to give the venue more exposure and international attention. The one-off Test match was the 100th international match to be played between the two sides.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in May 2021 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches. All of the matches took place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Originally, the tour was scheduled to take place in December 2020. The Sri Lankan cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on 16 May 2021, following their two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured Zimbabwe in July 2021 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI), and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Bangladesh last toured Zimbabwe in April and May 2013. Originally, two Test matches were scheduled to be played on the tour, but one of the Tests was replaced with an additional T20I match.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in May 2022 to play two Test matches. The Test series formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship. The fixtures for the tour were confirmed in March 2022. In June 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) relaxed its rules on using neutral match officials, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2022, the ICC confirmed that neutral umpires would return to Test match cricket, with Richard Kettleborough from England and Joel Wilson of the West Indies standing in the first and second Tests respectively.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured the West Indies in June and July 2022 to play two Test, three One Day International (ODI), and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test matches formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship. A draft tour itinerary was announced in May 2022. The full details of the tour were confirmed on 1 June 2022.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in March and April 2024 to play two Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series formed part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. The fixtures for the tour were confirmed in February 2024.
