St. Bursouma's Orthodox Syrian Church is a parish of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Attuva (between Pandalam and Mavelikara) in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, India. It is under the Chengannur Orthodox Diocese. Mar Bursouma is its patron saint.

The parish was established in 1912, one of the first Malankara Orthodox Syrian churches established in the name of Mar Bursouma. It celebrated its centenary jubilee in February 2012.

Punnathra Dionysius III

Mar Dionysius III, also known as Punnathra Mar Dionysius and born Kurien was 11th Malankara Metropolitan and Successor to the Holy Apostolic Throne of St.Thomas from 1817 until his death. Dionysius had a long career in the Malankara Church prior to his consecration as Metropolitan. It was his suggestion during the time of Mar Thoma IX to establish the Syrian seminary at Kottayam, Kerala's first educational institution. He also welcomed some of the first missionary teachers who arrived from England to teach in the seminary. In 1816, following the demise of Mar Dionysius II, who had not appointed a successor, Kurien was elected to succeed him as the Malankara Metropolitan by the general assembly of the Church and was ordained as bishop by Mar Philexenos of the Malabar Independent Syrian Church.

Malankara Church

The Malankara Church refers to the collection of Indian apostolic churches, according to tradition, that claims ultimate origins from the missions of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century in India and were under the leadership of Marthoma I after the historical Coonan Cross Oath of 1653. All the Churches belonging to the Malankara patrimony follow the Antiochian West Syriac Rite liturgy. The word "Malankara" is a combination of two words, 'Mala' which means mountains and 'Kara' which means land surface; and refers to the state of Kerala in India.

St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Kadampanad, popularly known as Kadampanad Church is an ancient church of Saint Thomas Christians situated in the Central Travancore village of Kadampanad, in Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India. This Church belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church under the Diocese of Adoor-Kadampanad.

Malankara Metropolitan Palakkunathu Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan aka Thomas Thirumeni the first son of Abraham Malpan was born into the Palakunnathu family of Maramon. He was the Malankara Metropolitan of the autonomous Malankara Syrian Church faction of Malankara, from 1877 to 1893. The rift in Malankara Church was strong during his time, the majority Traditional Orthodox faction got the control of Malankara church following the Royal court verdict in 1889. He was evicted from the Pazhaya seminary. The Reformist faction, the faithful of the Malankara Syrian Church stood faithful with him later organized into an Independent Reformed Syrian Church and governed by their own bishop which later adopted the name Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, which is the true autonomous Malankara Syrian Church with its origins dating back to the Apostolic activity of St. Thomas the Apostle in 1st Century A.D.
