Belize country in Central America

Belize is a country located on the eastern coast of Central America. Belize is bordered on the northwest by Mexico, on the east by the Caribbean Sea, and on the south and west by Guatemala. It has an area of 8,800 square miles (22,800 km2) and a population of 387,879 (2017). Its mainland is about 180 mi (290 km) long and 68 mi (110 km) wide. It has the lowest population and population density in Central America. The country's population growth rate of 1.87% per year (2015) is the second highest in the region and one of the highest in the Western Hemisphere.

Its current facilities were consecrated in 2004 by the Right Rev'd Sylvester Romero Palma. The mission is currently served by the Right Revd Philip S. Wright, Bishop of Belize, [1] and the Revd David B. Alenskis, [2] currently the priest in charge and a missionary in connexion with SAMS-USA. [3]

Sylvester Romero Palma was the thirteenth Anglican Bishop of Belize from 1978. He resigned his See in 2005.

Philip Wright was appointed the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Belize in 2005. He attended Wesley College and Belize Technical College before teaching at Nazareen High School and at the Belize Technical College. After studying at Codrington College, he was ordained as a priest in 1992. He is the incumbent of St. Andrew's Anglican Church.

A priest in charge or priest-in-charge in the Church of England is a priest in charge of a parish who is not its incumbent. Such priests are not legally responsible for the churches and glebe, but simply hold a licence rather than the freehold and are not appointed by advowson.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Belize City-Belmopan is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in continental Central America. The diocese comprises the entirety of Belize, the former British dependency British Honduras. It is a Latin suffragan of the Archdiocese of Kingston and a member of the Antilles Episcopal Conference, yet still depends on the missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

The Church of the Province of Central Africa is part of the Anglican Communion, and includes 15 dioceses in Botswana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Primate of the Church is the Archbishop of Central Africa. Albert Chama is the current Archbishop, being installed on 20 March 2011, succeeding Bernard Amos Malango who retired in 2007. From 1980 to 2000, Walter Khotso Makhulu, a noted Anti-Apartheid activist, was Archbishop as well as Bishop of Botswana. Archbishop Chama continues to serve as Bishop of Northern Zambia, and is the second Zambian to be Archbishop of Central Africa.

Goffs Caye island in Belize

Goff's Caye is a small island off the shore of Belize City, Belize. It sits right on the edge of the Belize Barrier Reef with waters to the south and east being only 0.6 to 3 metres deep. Goff's Caye is registered as an archaeological site due to its Colonial era settlement. During the Colonial times, the island served as a fishing camp, trade center and cemetery. Among those interred in the cemetery are a number of crew members from HMS Blossom, who died of Yellow Fever during a visit to the colony in August 1830.

The Anglican Diocese of Bendigo is the Anglican ecclesial district covering the north-western regions of Victoria, Australia, roughly that part of Victoria north of the Great Dividing Range and west of the Goulburn River. The diocese was separated from the Diocese of Melbourne in 1902, at the same time as the creation of the dioceses of Wangaratta and Gippsland. In 1977, the Diocese of St Arnaud, which had been separated from the Diocese of Ballarat in 1926, was disbanded and merged with Bendigo.

Founded in 1962, the see was originally part of the much larger Diocese of Labuan and its Dependencies which was established in 1855. Following the carving out of the Diocese of Singapore in 1909 from this last ecclesiastical territory, the area of the present-day Diocese fell under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Labuan & Sarawak, which was reorganised as the Diocese of Borneo in 1949. In 1962, the latter diocese was divided into two, forming the Diocese of Kuching and the Diocese of Jesselton, which was renamed the Diocese of Sabah when the capital city was given the new name of Kota Kinabalu in 1967.

Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is the main public hospital in Belize City, Belize. It functions as both the national referral hospital, and the district hospital for Belize District. It is located on Princess Margaret Drive, next to the offices of the Belize Social Security Board. It is publicly owned and operated, and is the main hospital in the area. As the hospital notes: "The KHMH has a capacity of 134 beds, and boast three surgical suits as well as two labor and delivery suits. A 24/7 stat lab, weekend pharmacy services, and range of over 25 specialists make the KHMH the place where, increasingly, more and more Belizeans turn to for emergency and medical care. Specialist clinics are held weekdays; additionally, private services are offered, allowing KHMH patients more options even within the parameter of being a public institution." Within the city there are seven other public hospitals, including three regional hospitals.

Burrell Boom Place in Belize District, Belize

Burrell Boom is on the Belize River twenty miles above Belize City, Belize. Tourists pass through this historic village on their way to the Community Baboon Sanctuary, where the population of black howler monkeys has grown to over 2,000.

Yarborough Cemetery is an historical cemetery located in Belize City, Belize. It was the first cemetery in British Honduras, used from 1787 until 1896, and was established for the burial of members of the colonial Anglican Church. It was named after the magistrate who owned the land. The cemetery was renovated in 1999 with the addition of perimeter fencing, landscaping and a marble memorial wall highlighting the names and contributions of those buried there. In 2009, the government designated it an archaeological reserve.

The Anglican Mission in England (AMiE) is a mission society that seeks to establish Anglican churches in England outside the Church of England. It seeks to support Anglican churches and individuals both within and outside present Church of England structures. Therefore, of those churches affiliated to AMiE, some are part of the Church of England while others self-identify as Anglican but lie outside Church of England structures. It was created with the support of the Global Anglican Future Conference, and is part of the Anglican realignment. It has been described as a "breakaway conservative Evangelical movement".
