Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth [lower-alpha 1] is a 1998 shoot 'em up video game developed and published by Hudson Soft (Electro Brain for the North American release) for the Nintendo 64, a direct sequel to Soldier Blade and is part of this Star Soldier series. There was also an arcade version released for Seta's Aleck 64, arcade hardware similar to the Nintendo 64. [4]

Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth is a science fiction-themed vertically scrolling shoot 'em up game. [5]

Reception

IGN gave Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth 5.0 out of 10 overall stating the gameplay was "okay, but has little variety and little innovation". [9] Nintendo Power gave 7.2/10: "This game is as simple as it gets. If you can see it on the screen, you can shoot it, or it can shoot you. Blast, dodge, collect power-ups. That's it". [22]

W. MacDonald of Hard Drive ranked Star Soldier #96 in its ranking of every N64 game, saying "It’s okay to not always want to dodge and weave your way through a bullet hell. Once in a while, it’s nice to hold down one button and wave an analog stick around for hours. Crack a cold one, do practically nothing, and still feel like you’re absolutely crushing." [23]

<i>Sin and Punishment</i> 2000 video game

Sin and Punishment is a rail shooter video game co-developed by Treasure and Nintendo for the Nintendo 64, and originally released only in Japan in 2000. Its story takes place in the near future of 2007 when war breaks out as humanity is struggling with a global famine. The player takes on the roles of Saki and Airan as they fight to save Earth from destruction. The game employs a unique scheme that uses both the D-pad and control stick on the Nintendo 64 controller, allowing players to maneuver the character while simultaneously aiming the targeting reticle. The player must shoot at enemies and projectiles while also dodging attacks to survive and progress through the game.

<i>Rev Limit</i> Unreleased sim racing video game

Rev Limit is an unreleased sim racing video game that was in development and planned to be published by Seta Corporation in May 1998 for the Nintendo 64. It was also intended to be the first arcade title to use Seta's own Aleck 64 arcade board, and was planned for the 64DD as well. It was one of the earliest original third-party racing titles to be announced for the system. In the game, players compete against either computer-controlled vehicles or other human opponents across several tracks of varying thematic in order to reach first place and advance to the next course.

<i>Dragon Sword</i> Cancelled video game

Dragon Sword is an unreleased action role-playing video game that was in development by Interactive Studios and planned to be published by MGM Interactive for the Nintendo 64, Windows and PlayStation. In the game, players would have assume the role from one of the four crusaders battling with monsters on a quest against an evil god to save the land of Avantaria and free its people from enslavement. Its gameplay consists of melee focused fights against multiple enemies in dungeon crawler styled levels.
