Rourkela is a planned city located in the northern district Sundargarh of Odisha, India. It is the third-largest Urban Agglomeration in Odisha after Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. It is situated about 328 kilometres (204 mi) west of state capital Bhubaneswar and is surrounded by a range of hills and encircled by the rivers Koel, Sankha, & Brahmani. The city is also popularly known as Ispat Nagar and Steel City of Odisha as well. One of the largest integrated steel plants set up with German collaboration Known as Rourkela Steel Plant, of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). It also has one of the premier national level technical institute known as National Institutes of Technology (NIT Rourkela). Every year, on 3 March Rourkela Day has been celebrated.
Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) formerly College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar (CETB) is a public unitary technical university under the state government of Odisha located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, India. It was established in 1981, by Government of Orissa, as a constituent college of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology. Students are admitted to the college through the Joint Entrance Examination (main) merit list of Government of India. The Institute is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. The Government of Odisha has granted unitary university status.
National Institute of Technology Rourkela, formerly Regional Engineering College Rourkela is a publicly funded institute of higher learning for engineering, science and technology located in the steel city of Rourkela, Odisha, India. It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. It is ranked 16th in the NIRF Rankings 2023 of Indian engineering universities.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang was established in the year of 1982 and was managed directly by the Govt. of Odisha in the name of Odisha College of Engineering (OCE). Engg, Geotech.Engg.,Mechanical System Design, Mett. & Materials Engg., Power Electronics & Drives, Power System Engg., Production Engg., Structural Engg., Master in Computer Application; besides five Diploma Courses in Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Mechanical & Metallurgical Engineering.Currently, Dr. Satyabrata Mohanta is the director of the institute.

Purushottam Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) is a private co-aid undergraduate engineering college located in semi rural part of Mandiakudar of semi urban town Kansbahal. The institute was established in 1999. In the beginning, the institute temporarily functioned in the campus of Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector 06 of city Rourkela, with small a number of students and faculty. In 2001 the institute moved to new campus located at Mandiakudar, 30 km away from the city Rourkela.
Uditnagar Government High School is a state-run coeducational primary and middle school located in the Uditnagar section of Rourkela, Odisha, India. Founded in 1954 as a private school, it is one of the oldest schools in Rourkela. In 1955 it was granted grade 'B' class government institution status. Municipal College Rourkela is one of the oldest institution imparting +2, undergraduate degree to students in western Odisha and around. The college laid its foundation in 1978 under Rourkela Education Development Society (REDS) which was due to patronage of the founding member A.J Alex and NAC(CT) Pitambar Mohanty OAS(I).
Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, also known as KMIPS, is a well-known pharmaceutical sciences institute in the Indian State of Odisha. Hi-Tech Medical College, Rourkela is a Semi government medical school in India affiliated to sambalpur University. It is in Rourkela, Odisha. Kendrapara Autonomous College is a co-ed non-government autonomous college located in town of Kendrapada, Odisha. The autonomous college was established in the year 1959. In the year 2005 UGC granted this college its autonomous status to run its undergraduate educational curriculum. The college got its accreditation by NAAC with grade A certification in the year 2005. The autonomous college offers students three years of regular undergraduate courses in degree of Arts (B.A),, Commerce and Science (B.Sc.).
