The swimming competitions at the 2023 SEA Games took place at Morodok Techo National Aquatics Center in Phnom Penh from 6 to 11 May 2023. [1]

Contents

It was one of four aquatic sports at the Games, along with diving, finswimming and Water Polo. [2] A total of 39 events was contested at this edition. The 800m/1500m freestyle for men and women was removed respectively, and was replaced with the introduction of the mixed 4X100m medley relay for the first time in SEA Games history.

Summary

Singapore once again cemented their swimming dominance in Southeast Asia by a wide margin. Winning 47 medals, consisting of 22 gold, 16 silver and 9 bronze across the competition, the country achieved their best ever away results. Singapore won over half of the gold medals at 22 out of 39, and the country got their 1,000th gold medal at the SEA Games on the pool. One of their swimmers, Jonathan Tan, also achieved Olympic qualification timing for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris – while at the same time breaking the Southeast Asian Games record and national record. Joseph Isaac Schooling is a Singaporean former professional swimmer who specialised in butterfly, freestyle, and medley events. He was the gold medalist in the 100m butterfly at the 2016 Olympics, achieving Singapore's first ever Olympic gold medal. Swimming competitions at the 2015 SEA Games was held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang, Singapore from 6 to 11 June 2015. Built only a year earlier, the venue is hosting the SEA Games for the first time. It was used to host the second Southeast Asian Swimming Championships in 2014 as a test bed for the organisers, with the 2015 Southeast Asian Games volunteers hired to also volunteer in the 2014 Swimming Championships to help in the familiarisation of the new venue.

The Indoor hockey competition at the 2023 SEA Games featured two events and the competitions took place at the Rong Roeung Hall, Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 1–7 May 2023.

The men's football tournament at the 2023 SEA Games was held in Cambodia. Ten Southeast Asian nations entered the men's tournament. The tournament was limited to players exclusively under-22 years of age.

The women's football tournament at the 2023 SEA Games was held from 3–15 May 2023 in Cambodia. Eight Southeast Asian nations participated in the women's tournament. All matches are played in Phnom Penh. There is no age limit for this tournament. Indonesia withdrew from the competition after the draw. Timor-Leste did not take part in the competition.

Ke Leng is a retired Cambodian pétanque player. She won four consecutive Women's Pétanque World Championships in the precision shooting category. She is widely considered one of the greatest Cambodian pétanque players and Cambodian athletes.
