This is the solo discography of Finnish singer Tarja Turunen, who rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of symphonic metal band Nightwish, which she founded in 1996 and was dismissed from in 2005 after releasing five studio albums, three live albums and one EP between 1997 and 2004 (for further information see Nightwish discography). [1]
In 2004 Tarja had already released an independent single, "Yhden enkelin unelma, [2] and played a few headlining Christmas shows in Europe in late 2005, [1] thus officially launching her solo career in 2006 with a Christmas album called Henkäys ikuisuudesta , [3] followed in 2007 by her first rock album, My Winter Storm , accompanied by the "I Walk Alone" single, a minor hit in Europe. [4] Since then, she's been keeping a steady routine of albums production and touring, not only as a solo rock artist, with a total of five rock albums so far (the most recent being In the Raw in 2019 [5] ), but also venturing into diverse styles as classical music territory, which is her official music formation, also often putting out albums and playing live tours regarding Christmas celebrations. [6] (see Ave Maria – En Plein Air from 2015 and Score for a Dark Christmas from 2017 as examples).
On 2 December 2022, Tarja released her first compilation album, Best of: Living the Dream in many formats to celebrate her 15-year solo career. [7] She later announced the beginning of The Greatest Hits Tour in support of the compilation album, starting in the United States, with further dates already scheduled into early 2025. [8] On 23 June 2023, Tarja and EDM producer Torsten Stenzel released their self-titled debut studio project under the moniker of Outlanders, [9] mixing rock, electronic and several other music styles, with songs and official videos for each track made available on Spotify and YouTube throughout the year, a project that had been in the making since 2010. [10] Turunen released Dark Christmas in 2023 and the song "Left on Mars" with Marko Hietala in 2024. [11]
As of September 2024, Turunen has put out ten studio albums, eight live albums, five EPs and fifty lead and promotional singles. [6]

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, Angels Fall First (1997). In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist role previously filled by Holopainen or guest singers. Although Nightwish have been prominent in their home country since Angels Fall First, they did not achieve wider success until the release of the albums Oceanborn (1998), Wishmaster (2000) and Century Child (2002).
Century Child is the fourth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released in 2002 through Spinefarm Records in Finland, Drakkar Entertainment in the rest of Europe, Century Media Records in the US, and Toy's Factory in Japan. It is the first album which features now-former bassist and male vocalist Marko Hietala, who left the band in January 2021. It is also the first Nightwish album to feature an orchestra.
Once is the fifth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, released on 7 June 2004 by Spinefarm Records in Finland and Nuclear Blast in the rest of Europe. It is the fifth and last album to feature Tarja Turunen on lead vocals. The album cost nearly €250,000 to make, which made it Finland's most expensive recording ever until the release of Nightwish's next album, Dark Passion Play, which cost over €500,000 to produce. As of 2013, Once had sold 2.3 million copies worldwide, becoming Nightwish's most successful album to date. The remastering of the album was released on 6 August 2021.
Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli, known professionally as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish heavy metal singer, best known as the former lead vocalist of Nightwish.
Marko Tapani "Marco" Hietala is a Finnish heavy metal vocalist, bassist and songwriter. Internationally, he is best known as the former bassist, male vocalist and secondary composer to Tuomas Holopainen, of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. He is also the vocalist and bassist as well as composer and lyricist for the heavy metal band Tarot.
End of an Era is a DVD and double CD from Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Nuclear Blast recorded their live performance at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, on 21 October 2005, the final concert of a long worldwide tour for their album Once. During the concert the band was joined on-stage by John Two-Hawks, who performed "Stone People" from his album Honor as an introduction to "Creek Mary's Blood", which featured his voice and cedar flutes. End of an Era is the final Nightwish production to feature Tarja Turunen on vocals. She was dismissed by a letter after this concert.
Henkäys Ikuisuudesta is the first solo album by Finnish singer Tarja Turunen, and focuses on the Christmas holiday season. On November 26, 2010, Nuclear Blast released a re-mastered version of the CD, bringing a new artwork and a semi-new track list, with "Heinillä Härkien" replacing "Happy New Year" and "Maa On Niin Kaunis" replacing "Happy Christmas "; the new edition also contains the previously unpublished track "Arkihuolesi Kaikki Heitä", which replaced "The Eyes of a Child".
Dark Passion Play is the sixth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released on 26 September 2007 by Spinefarm Records in Finland, 28 September by Nuclear Blast in Europe and 2 October 2007 by Roadrunner Records in the US. It is the first album without original vocalist Tarja Turunen, who was dismissed in 2005, as well as the first album involving future member Troy Donockley on uilleann pipes and tin whistle. It is the first of only two albums with vocalist Anette Olzon, who was eventually dismissed in 2012 after the release of the band's subsequent album, Imaginaerum. Tuomas Holopainen has referred to this album as the "album that saved his life".
This is the discography of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, which consists of ten studio albums, one extended play, six live albums, four compilations, eighteen music videos and twenty singles.
My Winter Storm is the second solo album by Finnish singer Tarja Turunen, and the first to consist mainly of new and original songs specifically written by or for Turunen. The album was released by Universal Music on 19 November 2007 in Finland, on 2 January 2008 in South America and on February 26 in North America and in the United Kingdom was also released a special version limited in 300 copies.
What Lies Beneath is the third album by the Finnish singer Tarja Turunen, which was released on 1 September 2010 in Finland, on 3 September in Germany, Switzerland and Austria and on 14 September in Latin and North America. It is the first of Tarja's albums in which she is credited for composition on every track. The album was mixed at '62 Studios in Austin Texas by Tim Palmer.
Sting in the Tail is the seventeenth studio album by German hard rock band Scorpions. It was released on 19 March 2010 in Europe and on 23 March in North America. At the time it was intended to be a farewell album, released prior to their farewell tour.
Act I is the first live album released by the Finnish soprano Tarja Turunen. The two concerts were recorded and filmed with 10 HD cameras at the El Círculo Theatre in Rosario, Argentina, in March 2012, and released on CD, DVD and Blu-ray on 24 August 2012. Additionally, the Act I media book contains a live recording from Luna Park.
Colours in the Dark is the fourth studio album released by Finnish vocalist Tarja Turunen.
