Tetragraptus is an extinct genus of graptolites from the Ordovician period.
Fossils of Tetragraptus have been found in Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada (Quebec, Yukon, Newfoundland and Labrador and Northwest Territories), Chile, China, Colombia (near Caño Cristales, Meta), the Czech Republic, France, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, the Russian Federation, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States (Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, Utah). Extinction is the termination of a taxon by the death of its last member. A taxon may become functionally extinct before the death of its last member if it loses the capacity to reproduce and recover. Because a species' potential range may be very large, determining this moment is difficult, and is usually done retrospectively. This difficulty leads to phenomena such as Lazarus taxa, where a species presumed extinct abruptly "reappears" after a period of apparent absence.
The Pterygota are a subclass of insects that includes all winged insects and the orders that are secondarily wingless.
A cur was a dog breed used by cattle drovers in England. The breed is now extinct. In the United States a short-haired dog used in hunting and herding is called "cur-tailed", or "cur" for short.
The conservation status of a group of organisms indicates whether the group still exists and how likely the group is to become extinct in the near future. Many factors are taken into account when assessing conservation status: not simply the number of individuals remaining, but the overall increase or decrease in the population over time, breeding success rates, and known threats. Various systems of conservation status are in use at international, multi-country, national and local levels, as well as for consumer use such as sustainable seafood advisory lists and certification. The two international systems are by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
The Complete Peerage ; first edition by George Edward Cokayne, Clarenceux King of Arms; 2nd edition revised by Vicary Gibbs et al.) is a comprehensive work on the titled aristocracy of the British Isles.
The Tremadocian is the lowest stage of Ordovician. Together with the later Floian Stage it forms the Lower Ordovician Epoch. The Tremadocian lasted from 485.4 to 477.7 million years ago. The base of the Tremadocian is defined as the first appearance of the conodont species Iapetognathus fluctivagus at the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) section on Newfoundland.
Neontology is a part of biology that, in contrast to paleontology, deals with living organisms. It is the study of extant taxa : taxa with members still alive, as opposed to (all) being extinct. For example:
Pneumatoarthrus is an extinct genus of sea turtle known from the Late Cretaceous Mount Laurel Formation of Monmouth County, New Jersey. Only a single species, P. peloreus, is known.
The Diabasbrottet Quarry, located on Mt. Hunneberg, Västergötland, Sweden, is the location of the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) which marks the lower boundary of the Floian stage of the Lower Ordovician.
The Floian is the second stage of the Ordovician Period. It succeeds the Tremadocian with which it forms the Lower Ordovician epoch. It precedes the Dapingian Stage of the Middle Ordovician. The Floian extended from 477.7 to 470 million years ago. The lower boundary is defined as the first appearance of the graptolite species Tetragraptus approximatus.
Orycteocetus is an extinct genus of sperm whale from the Miocene of the northern Atlantic Ocean.
Carolinochelys is an extinct genus of sea turtle from Oligocene of United States. It contains one species: C. wilsoni, and was first named by O.P. Hay in 1923.
Angistorhinopsis is an extinct genus of altirostral (long-snouted) mystriosuchin phytosaur. It was named for its supposed resemblance to Angistorhinus by Friedrich von Huene in 1922. Fossils have been found in Switzerland and date back to the latest Norian and Rhaetian stages of the Late Triassic, making it the youngest known phytosaur to have existed in Europe and, along with Redondasaurus from the United States, one of the last surviving members of Phytosauria before the group became extinct during the Triassic–Jurassic extinction event 199.6 million years ago.
Peckemys is an extinct genus of baenid turtle which existed in the Hell Creek Formation, United States during the late Cretaceous period. It was first named by Tyler R. Lyson and Walter G. Joyce in 2009 and the type species is Peckemys brinkman.

Flo is a historic parish (socken) in the Swedish province of Västergötland. Since 1971 it has been a part of Grästorp Municipality.
Tetragraptus approximatus is a species of dichograptid graptolite belonging to the genus Tetragraptus. It existed during the Floian Age of the Ordovician. It is an important index fossil in biostratigraphy.
Extinct is a 2021 animated science fiction comedy film directed by David Silverman, and co-directed by Raymond S. Persi, from a screenplay by Joel Cohen, John Frink, and Rob LaZebnik. It features the voices of Rachel Bloom, Adam Devine, Zazie Beetz, Ken Jeong, Catherine O'Hara, Benedict Wong, Reggie Watts, and Jim Jefferies in a story following two flummels named Ed and Op, an extinct cat-like species with giant holes in the center, that find themselves transported from their island home in the year 1835 to modern day Shanghai.
