The Texas Longhorns softball team represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate softball competition. The Longhorns competed in the Big 12 Conference through the 2024 season and moved to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on July 1, 2024.
The University of Texas began varsity intercollegiate competition in softball in 1997; the softball team competed as a club team for one year in 1996. [2] Texas has an all-time varsity win–loss record of 1,123–478–5 (.701) as of May 5, 2024. [3] The Longhorns have won five regular season conference championships and four conference tournament championships in softball as of May 5, 2024. [2] [4] (The Big 12 did not hold a softball tournament during the 2011 to 2016 seasons.) Texas has made 22 total appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 26 seasons of varsity competition through the end of the 2023 season, reaching the Women's College World Series (WCWS) seven times (1998, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2022, 2024) and the super regional round, which was introduced in 2005, on nine occasions. The Longhorns play their home games at Red & Charline McCombs Field, where they have compiled a record of 592–149–3 (.798) as of May 4, 2024. [3] Texas hired sixth-year head coach Mike White, formerly head coach of the Oregon Ducks, on June 25, 2018. [5]

Texas is the only program in the NCAA with three USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year awards. [9] Pitcher Cat Osterman, who won the award all three times, is the only player in NCAA history to have won the award more than twice. [10]

Catherine Leigh Osterman is a retired American softball player. Osterman pitched on the United States women's national softball team that won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and silver medal at the 2008 and 2020 Summer Olympics.

Connie Sue Clark is an American, former collegiate All-American right-handed softball pitcher and head coach. Clark began her college softball career at the junior college level before finishing her last two years with the Cal State Fullerton Titans from 1986–87 and leading them to the 1986 Women's College World Series championship title. She is the Big West Conference career leader in ERA and WHIP for her two seasons, she also ranks top-10 for those records for both the Titans and the NCAA Division I.

The Lone Star Showdown is the traditional rivalry for all varsity men's and women's athletics competitions between the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University. The name comes from Lone Star State, which is the nickname of the state of Texas. The "Lone Star Showdown" moniker was trademarked in 1996.
The 2014 Texas Longhorns softball team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 2014 NCAA Division I softball season. Connie Clark entered the year as head coach of the Longhorns for an 18th consecutive season. The Longhorns were picked to finish third in the pre-season conference polls. After posting a 12–6 record in conference play, the Longhorns finished exactly where they were picked to finish and qualified for the NCAA softball tournament as an at large bid. The Longhorns would go 2–2 in the Lafayette Region and bow out with a final record of 35–23.

The 1989–90 Texas Longhorns men's basketball team represented The University of Texas at Austin in intercollegiate basketball competition during the 1989–90 season. The Longhorns were led by second-year head coach Tom Penders. The team finished the season with a 24–9 overall record and finished third in Southwest Conference play with a 12–4 conference record. Texas advanced to the NCAA tournament for in consecutive seasons for the first time in school history, recording its fourth overall Elite Eight appearance and its first in 43 years. Texas finished the season ranked No. 12 in the postseason college basketball Coaches Poll.
Blaire Luna is an American, former collegiate All-American, right-handed pro softball pitcher, originally from Austin, Texas. She attended Bowie High School in Austin, Texas. She later attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she pitched for the Texas Longhorns softball team in the Big 12 Conference and was named a Second Team and three-time First Team All-Conference honoree. She currently ranks 10th in career strikeout ratio for the NCAA Division I. In her senior year, Luna led Texas softball to a berth in the 2013 Women's College World Series semifinals, where they lost to Tennessee, 2–0. She later went on to play professional softball for the USSSA Pride of National Pro Fastpitch, and internationally in New Zealand.

Janae Reann Jefferson is an American professional softball player for the Texas Smoke of the Women's Professional Fastpitch and a member of the United States women's national softball team. She played college softball at Texas where she holds several program records.
