Thai League 3 or Thailand Regional Championship, commonly known as the T3, is the third level of Thai football. It was started in 2017 First season. In 2017, the League is divided in 2 regions and participated by 32 clubs 1st-4th clubs from 8 regions which are former members Regional League Division 2 and debutants in the season. [1]

History of Thai third-tier football

Division 2 era (until 2017)

A national third tier of Football Association of Thailand was first established when the newly created Division 2 Football League was formed in 2006 with 10 member clubs.

In 2006, the first season, 10 clubs played each other twice, with promotion going to the championship winner Chula-Sinthana FC. No relegation occurred in 2006.

In 2008, although two clubs were relegated at the end of the 2007 season, the league was again expanded the following year, to 22 clubs. 2 Groups would be created. 11 clubs in Group A and 11 clubs in Group B.

In 2009, Division 2 Football League renamed Regional League Division 2 Division 2 League was combined with Provincial League by FAT. The league was again split from 2 groups into 5 groups 52 clubs played covering the North of Thailand, North East (Isan) region, Central East Zone, Bangkok central zone and South of Thailand. The league was also renamed as the Regional League Division 2. 5 group winners would enter a championship round to determine which three teams would gain promotion to the Thai Division 1 League. Raj Pracha duly won the championship stage and were promoted with Chiangrai United of the Northern League and Narathiwat of the Southern League. The league was also created so it would combat against the rival Provincial League. With future growth moving the Pro League to join the 2nd Division.

Professionalization and establishment (2017)

Close to the end of 2016 about the upcoming professional third-tier league, referred to as either "Thai League 3" most of the sources agreed that the new league will feature around 32 clubs divided into Two Groups.

To participate a club must have held an associate membership, and then passed an inspection in order to obtain a participation licence issued by Football Association of Thailand and passed club licensing regulation.

Combined with Thai League 4 and change the season period (2020)

Due to the epidemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 also known as COVID-19, the season must be postponed to start in late 2020 and end in early 2021. In addition, the Thai League 4 had combined with the Thai League 3 and compete as Thai League 3 since this season.

2010 Regional League Division 2 Bangkok Metropolitan Region is the 2nd season of the League competition since its establishment in 2009. It is in the third tier of the Thai football league system.

The 2013 Thai Premier League is the 17th season of the Thai Premier League since its establishment in 1996. A total of 18 teams are competing in the league. It will begin in 2 March 2013 to 3 November 2013.

Songkhla United Football Club is a Thai defunct professional football club based in Songkhla Province.

The 2015 Thai Premier League was the 19th season of the Thai Premier League since its establishment in 1996. A total of 18 teams competed in the league. The season began on 14 February and finished on 13 December.

The 2016 Thai League T1 was the 20th season of the Thai League T1, the top Thai professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1996. A total of 18 teams competed in the league. The season started on 5 March 2016.

Thailand Amateur League, commonly known as the TA, is the fifth level of Thai football organised by Thai League Co., Ltd. It was started in 2017 by an idea from Police General Somyot Poompanmoung, the president of Football Association of Thailand to improve all Thai Amateur clubs to be better and allowing other clubs which are in other regions chances to play in national FA tournament. In 2017, the tournament was divided into 12 regions and participated by 119 clubs which are former members Football Division 3, and debutants in the season. As the tournament is considered as the lowest level of Thai football, so the number of participants is unlimited as well as any club is able to send an application to participate in the tournament. In 2016, the Football Division 3 became a trophy for the Thailand Amateur League.

2017 Thai League 4 Western Region is the 5th season of the League competition since its establishment in 2013. It is in the 4th tier of the Thai football league system.

The 2019 Thai League 4 is the 19th season of the Thai League 4, the fourth-tier professional league for association football clubs in Thailand, since its establishment in 2006 as the regional league division 2, also known as Omsin League due to the sponsorship deal with Government Savings Bank. A total of 60 teams would divided into 6 regions.

The 2020–21 Thai League 3 is the fourth season of the Thai League 3, the third-tier professional league for association football clubs in Thailand, since its establishment in 2017, also known as Omsin League Regional Championship due to the sponsorship deal with Government Savings Bank. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand, the season must be postponed to start in late 2020 and end in early 2021. In addition, the Thai League 4 had combined with the Thai League 3 and compete as Thai League 3 since this season and there is no relegation in this season. A total of 72 teams would be divided into 6 regions including 11 teams in the Northern region, 11 teams in the Northeastern region, 12 teams in the Eastern region, 12 teams in the Western region, 12 teams in the Southern region, and 14 teams in the Bangkok metropolitan region.

A total of 11 teams located in Northern, Upper western, and Upper central of Thailand will compete in the league of the Northern region.

The 2020–21 Thai League 3 Western region is a region in the regional stage of the 2020–21 Thai League 3. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the season must be postponed to start in late 2020 and end in early 2021. In addition, the Thai League 4 had combined with the Thai League 3 and compete as Thai League 3 since this season and there is no relegation in this season. A total of 12 teams located in Western, central, and Bangkok Metropolitan Region of Thailand will compete in the league of the Western region.

The 2020–21 Thai League 3 Southern region is a region in the regional stage of the 2020–21 Thai League 3. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the season must be postponed to start in late 2020 and end in early 2021. In addition, the Thai League 4 had combined with the Thai League 3 and compete as Thai League 3 since this season and there is no relegation in this season. A total of 12 teams located in Southern of Thailand will compete in the league of the Southern region.

The 2021–22 season is Ratchaburi Mitr Phol Football Club's 15th existence. It is the 6th season in the Thai League and the club's 9th consecutive season in the top flight of the Thai football league system since promoted in the 2013 season. Also, having finished 4th in the first half of 2020-21 Thai League 1, Ratchaburi Mitr Phol Football Club are qualified for the play-off stage of the 2021 AFC Champions League for the first time in the club's history, but after Jiangsu ceased operation, Ratchaburi Mitr Phol automatically qualified to the group stage instead alongside Pohang Steelers. In this season, Ratchaburi Mitr Phol participates in 4 competitions which consisted of the Thai League, FA Cup, League Cup, and AFC Champions League.

The 2021–22 season is Muangkan United's 1st season in Thai League 2 after promoted from Thai League 3 for the first time in the club's history in 2021. In this season, Muangkan United participates in 3 competitions which consisted of the Thai League 2, FA Cup, and League Cup.
