It was originally based on the former Smash Hits magazine, which was owned by EMAP. The channel shut down on 29 June 2022 at 6am and was replaced with a new version of 4Music.

The station formed part of the Bauer Passion Portfolio. The longest-serving DJ was presenter Natalie Brown, who had been involved from 10 April 2003 until the final day on air.
