Torrens Transit is an Australian bus service operator in Adelaide. It operates some services as part of the Adelaide Metro network under contract to the Government of South Australia. It is a subsidiary of Transit Systems, which is a part of the Kelsian Group.
In April 2000, Torrens Transit began operating the Adelaide Metro East–West contract, with 255 buses under contract to the Government of South Australia. [1] [2] [3]
In April 2005, Torrens Transit began operating the North–South and Outer North East contracts that had previously been run by Serco. [4] [5]
In July 2011, Torrens Transit began operating a new eight-year East–West contract, with an optional four-year extension exercisable based on performance criteria. [6] The North–South and Outer North East area contracts passed to Light-City Buses in October 2011. [7] [8]
In April 2013, Light-City Buses was stripped of eight routes for continued poor performance, with these being returned to Torrens Transit. [9] [10] [11]
In November 2014, Torrens Transit began operating a new service between the CBD and Adelaide Airport with a double deck Bustech CDi. [12]
In June 2018, the Light-City Buses business was integrated with Torrens Transit, following Transit Systems purchasing it from Broadspectrum, doubling the fleet to 700 buses. [13] [14] [15] This marked the return of Light-City routes to Torrens Transit after seven years.
In July 2020, Torrens Transit retained its East West, Outer North East and North South contracts, and took over the Outer North contract from SouthLink. All four bus contracts will run for 8 years. Its North–South contract was expanded to include the Glenelg tram line and is operated by Torrens Connect, a joint venture between Torrens Transit, UGL Rail and John Holland. [16] [17] [18]
As at October 2023, the fleet consisted of 821 buses. [19] Buses are painted in Adelaide Metro liveries v1, v2, New, Hybrid, and sometimes in All Over Advertising. In 2000 Torrens Transit inherited a fleet of Dennis Dart, MAN NL202, MAN SL202, Volvo B58 articulated and Volvo B59s from TransAdelaide. [20]

The system has evolved heavily over the past fifteen years, and patronage increased dramatically during the 2014–15 period, a 5.5 percent increase on the 2013 figures due to electrification of frequented lines.

Surfside Buslines was an Australian bus operator on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It operated 56 services under contract to the Government of Queensland under the Translink banner. It also operates nine services in the adjoining Tweed Valley of northern New South Wales under contract to the Government of New South Wales. As of 2022, Surfside Buslines has changed its name as part of a business re-brand by the parent company, Kinetic. Surfside Buslines has now been dissolved into the Kinetic brand with its fleet of buses reflecting this change.
The Volvo B7RLE is a low-entry single-deck bus chassis manufactured by Volvo. It was superseded by the Volvo B8RLE in 2013.
Transport for Brisbane, previously called Brisbane Transport, is an organisational division of the Brisbane City Council, responsible through its related Council Committee for providing policy and advice to Brisbane City Council, and for delivering various public transport services across the City of Brisbane. The division does this as part of an agreement with Translink, an agency of the Department of Transport and Main Roads that operates public transport across South East Queensland.

The Perth Central Area Transit system, or simply CAT, consists of five bus routes in the centre of Perth and three bus routes in Joondalup. Similar services exist in Rockingham and Midland. Unlike all other Transperth services, most CAT routes are free.
The Mercedes-Benz O405 was a single-decker bus manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s as either an integral bus or a bus chassis and was the last VöV SL-II standard bus in production. It was the replacement for the Mercedes-Benz O305 and was widely used in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore with 12,000 produced.
Hillsbus was an Australian bus company that operated services in the Hills District of Sydney. Founded in 2004 when National Express merged its Glenorie Bus Company and Westbus subsidiaries, it was later part of ComfortDelGro Australia. In early 2023, the Hillsbus brand was replaced by ComfortDelGro's CDC NSW brand.
Buses account for close to six per cent of trips each day in the city of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, forming a key part of the city's public transport system. The network initially evolved from a privately operated system of feeder services to railway stations in the outer suburbs, and a publicly operated network of bus services introduced to replace trams in the inner suburbs. The Scania K series is a series of chassis in Scania's city bus and coach range with longitudinally, straight-up mounted engine at the rear, replacing the K- and L-type (L94) chassis of the 4 series. The K series was first presented on Busworld 2005 in Kortrijk, Belgium, and models were available from 2006.
Darwinbus is the official operational name of the public bus network which operates within the Greater Darwin region, this includes the satellite cities Palmerston and Casuarina, in addition to the Darwin Rural Area in the Northern Territory. The network is exclusively operated by CDC Northern Territory under a six-year contract with the Northern Territory Government starting from 1 July 2022, and in the financial year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, carried approximately 3.5 million passengers, equivalent to a 5-6% modeshare. Prior to July 2022, the network was operated by two contractors; CDC Northern Territory, and Territory Transit who had shared operation of the majority of urban bus services.

Transdev John HollandBuses is a bus operator in Sydney, Australia. A joint venture between Transdev and John Holland, it operates services in Sydney Bus Region 9 in the Eastern Suburbs under contract to Transport for NSW. It is a separate company to Transdev NSW, wholly owned by Transdev, which operates buses in other regions of Sydney.
