Ukai Thermal Power Station of the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited, India, is a power station with an installed capacity of 1,110 MW. It is one of Gujarat's major coal-fired power plants, located on the bank of the Tapi river.

Power plant

Ukai Thermal Power Station is located on the banks of the Tapi because of the water resources, along with the hydroelectric power plant with the same name. [1] Ukai TPS Unit-1 is the first power station unit in India with a capacity more than 100 MW.

Ukai TPS unit-6 was first unit in GSECL having a capacity more than 500 MW. [1]

Transport

It is on the Jalgaon-Surat branch line of Western Railway. Coal-based thermal power stations consume large quantities of coal. [2] For example, the Ukai Thermal Power Station consumed 3,200,000 tonnes of coal in 2006–07. [3] Around 80 per cent of the domestic coal supplies in India are meant for coal based thermal power plants and coal transportation forms 42 per cent of the total freight earnings of Indian railways. [4]

Parichha Thermal Power Station is located at Parichha in Jhansi district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 25 km from Jhansi on the bank of Betwa river. The power plant is owned and operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam which is a state enterprise.

Koradi Thermal Power Station (KTPS) is located at Koradi near Nagpur, Maharashtra. The power plant is one of the four major power plants in Vidarbha – a power surplus region of India. The power station began operations in 1974 and is one of the nine active power stations operated by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Prajot), a subsidiary of Government of Maharashtra owned Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB). It installs a 4X 250 MW thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district, Bihar, India. Nearly 90 per cent of the electricity generated from the plant is supplied to the railways to meet nationwide requirements and remaining 10 per cent is given to Bihar.
