Vegas National Forest

Vegas National Forest was established in Nevada on December 12, 1907 with 195,840 acres (792.5 km2). On July 1, 1908 it was absorbed by Moapa National Forest and the name was discontinued. The lands exist presently as part of Toiyabe National Forest. [1]

Bonneville National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Wyoming on July 1, 1908 with 1,627,840 acres (6,587.6 km2) from part of Yellowstone National Forest. On July 1, 1917 the entire forest was transferred to Washakie National Forest and the name was discontinued.

Powell National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Utah on July 1, 1908 with the renaming of Aquarius National Forest for John Wesley Powell. The Cascade Range Forest Reserve was established by the United States General Land Office in Oregon on September 28, 1893, with 4,492,800 acres (18,182 km2). On July 1, 1933, the entire forest was combined with Santiam National Forest to establish Willamette National Forest.

The Santiam National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon on July 1, 1911 with 710,170 acres (2,874.0 km2) from portions of Cascade National Forest and Oregon National Forest. On July 1, 1933 the entire forest was combined with Cascade to establish Willamette National Forest.

Sundance National Forest was established in the Bear Lodge Mountains of Wyoming by the U.S. Forest Service on July 1, 1908. It covered 183,224 acres (741.48 km2) from part of Black Hills National Forest and all of Bear Lodge National Forest. On July 1, 1915 the entire forest was transferred to Black Hills National Forest and the name was discontinued.

Port Neuf National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho on March 2, 1907 with 99,508 acres (402.69 km2). On July 1, 1908 the forest was combined with Pocatello National Forest and the name was discontinued. The lands are presently included in Caribou National Forest.

Diamond Mountain National Forest was established as the Diamond Mountain Forest Reserve by the U.S. Forest Service in California on July 14, 1905 with 626,724 acres (2,536.26 km2). It became a National Forest on March 4, 1907. On July 1, 1908 a portion of Diamond Mountain was transferred to Plumas National Forest and the remainder to Lassen National Forest. The name was discontinued.

Dismal River National Forest was established as the Dismal River Forest Reserve by the United States General Land Office in Nebraska on April 16, 1902 with 85,123 acres (344.48 km2). After the transfer of federal forests to the U.S. Forest Service in 1905, it became a National Forest on March 4, 1907. On July 1, 1908 the lands were transferred to Nebraska National Forest.

Stony Creek National Forest was established in California on February 6, 1907 with 937,569 acres (3,794 km2) of land. On July 1, 1908, the name was discontinued after a portion of the forest was used to establish the California National Forest, and the remainder was transferred to Trinity National Forest.

Chelan National Forest was established in Washington by the U.S. Forest Service on July 1, 1908 with 2,492,500 acres (10,087 km2) from a portion of Washington National Forest. On July 1, 1921 it absorbed the first Okanogan National Forest, but on March 23, 1955 the name was changed back to Okanogan.

Cheyenne National Forest was established in Wyoming by the U.S. Forest Service on July 1, 1908 with 617,932 acres (2,500.68 km2) from part of Medicine Bow National Forest and all of Crow Creek National Forest. On July 1, 1910 a portion was eliminated and the remainder renamed Medicine Bow National Forest.

Colorado National Forest was established in Colorado on July 1, 1910, with 659,780 acres (2,670.0 km2) from Medicine Bow National Forest. On March 28, 1932, it was renamed Roosevelt National Forest.

Kern National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in California on July 1, 1910 with 1,951,191 acres (7,896.19 km2) from a portion of Sequoia National Forest and other lands. On July 1, 1915 the entire forest was transferred back to Sequoia and the name was discontinued.

Nebo National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Utah on July 1, 1908, with 343,920 acres (1,391.8 km2) from the consolidation of Payson and Vernon National Forests and part of Fillmore. On July 1, 1915, the entire forest was transferred to Manti National Forest. The lands presently exist in Manti-La Sal National Forest.

Mono National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in California and Nevada on July 1, 1908 with 659,456 acres (2,668.72 km2), almost all in California, from parts of Inyo, Toiyabe, Stanislaus and Sierra National Forests. On July 1, 1945 the entire forest was divided between Inyo and Toiyabe and the name was discontinued.

Natural Bridge National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Virginia on May 16, 1918, with 107,038 acres (433.17 km2). On July 22, 1933, the entire forest was transferred to George Washington National Forest and the name was discontinued.

San Luis National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in California on July 1, 1908 from part of San Luis Obispo National Forest with 355,990 acres (1,440.6 km2). On July 1, 1910 the entire forest was combined with Santa Barbara National Forest and the name was discontinued.

Santa Rosa National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Nevada on April 11, 1911 with 299,960 acres (121,390 ha). On July 1, 1917 the entire forest was transferred to Humboldt National Forest and the name was discontinued.

Taos National Forest was established as the Taos Forest Reserve by the U.S. Forest Service in New Mexico on November 7, 1906 with 233,200 acres (944 km2). It became a National Forest on March 4, 1907. On July 1, 1908 the entire forest was combined with part of Jemez National Forest to create Carson National Forest and the name was discontinued.

Verde National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona on December 30, 1907, with 721,780 acres (2,920.9 km2). On July 1, 1908, the forest was combined with Prescott National Forest and the name was discontinued.
