Vijay Sethupathi is an Indian actor who works mainly in Tamil films. He has also worked in a few Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada films. He began his career in 1996 by playing small uncredited roles in films, before his first lead role in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010), under Seenu Ramasamy's direction. 2012 marked a turning point in Sethupathi's career; all his three releases were critical and commercial successes, resulting in a rise in his popularity.

Sethupathi was first seen in a negative role in Sundarapandian which featured M. Sasikumar in the lead role, and then played the lead roles in the directorial debuts of Karthik Subbaraj and Balaji Tharaneetharan, the thriller film Pizza (2012) and the comedy entertainer Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), respectively.

Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan are in the prominent roles as Ram and Jaanu, while newcomers Gouri G. Kishan and Aadithya Bhaskar played the younger versions. The film revolves around the reunion of former students from the batch of 1996, twenty-two years after their graduation. Master is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by S. Xavier Britto under XB Film Creators. The film stars Vijay in the titular role, alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Gouri G. Kishan. It is the first project of the production house, which also co-produced the film with Jagadish Palanisamy and Seven Screen Studio. The film follows John Durairaj "JD", an alcoholic professor, who takes a three-month teaching job at a juvenile home, and clashes with Bhavani, a ruthless gangster, who uses the children as the scapegoat for his criminal activities.

Ka Pae Ranasingam is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language political drama film written and directed by P. Virumaandi in his directorial debut. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh. Based on a true story, the film follows Ariyanachi, a poor woman who strives to bring her deceased husband's body back to India from Dubai, battling the odds of political agenda, corruption and a treacherous bureaucracy that stand in her way.
