The Vijay Television Awards are an awards ceremony held to honour the cast and crew of Tamil television drama and other shows which air on Star Vijay in Tamil Nadu. [1] It was established on 24 May 2014, [2] and is held annually in first half of year in Chennai. [3]

Nominations

Jurors select five nominees in each award category from among the shows that air on Star Vijay. The nominees are interviewed on Vijay TV and viewers are invited to cast their votes via text message or at the Vijay Television Awards website. [4]

1st Annual Vijay Television Awards

The 2014 Vijay Television Awards ceremony took place on 24 May 2014 at YMCA Nandanam, Chennai, and was telecast during the second week of June 2014. The show was hosted by Ma Ka Pa Anand, Jagan, Dhivyadharshini and Bhavana Balakrishnan. [5] [6]

Guests who attended the function included Sivakarthikeyan, Simran, Sangeetha, P. Vasu, D. Imman, Ambika, Radha and Yugi Sethu. [7]

Saravanan Meenatchi won six awards, including, Favourite Actor Male and Favourite Actor Female for Senthil Kumar and Sreeja Chandran. Other winners were Office with four awards, Airtel Super Singer and Jodi Number One with three awards, Deivam Thandha Veedu , Neeya Naana and Adhu Idhu Edhu with two awards, and Connexion with one award.

2nd Annual Vijay Television Awards

The second edition of Vijay Television Awards was held on 19 September 2015 at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The award function was hosted by the anchors Jagan, Ma Ka Pa Anand, Priya and Kavin, Bhavana Balakrishnan [8] [9] [10] The Vijay Television Awards song was released on 31 August. [11] The show aired 27 September 2015. [12] [13]

3rd Annual Vijay Television Awards

The third edition of Vijay Television Awards was held on 6 May 2017 at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. [14] The award function was hosted by the anchors Ramya Subramanian and Kavin. The show aired 21 May 2017. [15] [16]

6th Annual Vijay Television Awards

The award function was hosted by Dhivyadharshini, Ma Ka Pa Anand, Erode Mahesh and Priyanka Deshpande. It was telecasted on 18 April 2021.

7th Annual Vijay Television Awards

The award function was hosted by Archana Chandhoke, Ma Ka Pa Anand, Erode Mahesh and Priyanka Deshpande. It was telecasted on 24 April 2022. [17] [18]

Baakiyalakshmi won the most awards with 5 in total, Best Actress went to Suchitra, Best Prime-Time serial, Best Supporting Actress went to Reshma Pasupuleti, Best Father(Rosary), Best Director (David) and Best Writer (Priya Thambi).

Thendral Vanthu Ennai Thodum came second with 3 awards, which were Best Male and Female Performers going to Vinoth Babu and Pavithra Janani for their roles as Vetri and Abhi, Best Non Prime-time Serial as well as Best Non-Prime Time Director for Abdul Hafeez.

8th Annual Vijay Television Awards

This time around, Star Vijay opted to telecast the awards in two parts, the first part being aired on 14 May and the second part to be aired on 21 May. The hosts this time around were Nakshathra Nagesh, Ma Ka Pa Anand, Erode Mahesh and Priyanka Deshpande. [19]

Baakiyalakshmi swept the awards yet again, along with Eeramana Rojave 2 with three awards each going to them. Baakiyalakshmi won Favourite Primetime Serial, Best Villain for Reshma Pasupuleti and Best Heroine for Suchitra. Eeramana Rojave 2 also won 3 awards as well, with Gabriella Charlton and Siddarth Kumaran winning Best Pair, Swathi Konde winning Find of the Year for a female actress, as well as a posthumous award given to Eeramana Rojave 2 director Thai Selvam for best prime-time director.

Thendral Vandhu Ennai Thodum won two awards, with Best Supporting Actress going to Tharshika and Auditor Sridhar winning Best Father awards respectively; as well as Pandian Stores with two - Venkat Renganathan for his role as Jeeva in Pandian Stores and Saravanan Vickram for Supporting Hero. Muthuzhagu won best non prime-time serial, Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande won Best Anchor awards for their respective genders.

Erode Mahesh was also given a special award for his immense 15 year commitment to Star Vijay.

<i>Super Singer 4</i> Season of television series

Airtel Super Singer 4, the fourth season of Airtel Super Singer, premiered on 4th February 2013. The show was a reality-based Indian singing competition in Tamil that aired on STAR Vijay. It was designed to be a talent hunt to find the best voice of Tamil Nadu. Judges for the auditions were Ananth Vaidyanathan, S.P. Sailaja, Devan Ekambaram, Nithyasree Mahadevan, Mahathi, Pop Shalini, S. Sowmya, Mano and Malgudi Subha. Some of these judges along with other noted musicians reappeared as Guest judges. To name a few- S. Janaki, M. S. Viswanathan, A. R. Rahman, P. Susheela, Asha Bhosle, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Vairamuthu, L. R. Eswari and Vani Jairam. Judges for the main competition were Sujatha, Mano, Unnikrishnan and Srinivas. Makapa Anand, Priyanka Deshpande, and Bhavana were the hosts for the show. The voice trainer was Ananth Vaidyanathan. The show aired on weekdays at 9:00 PM IST.

Airtel Super Singer Junior Ithu Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal – is a reality TV show since February 2007 hosted by Vijay TV, a popular Tamil channel of the Star Network, and sponsored by Bharti Airtel. It is a singing talent hunt for the children of age group 6–15. This is the junior version of the Airtel Super Singer show, which premiered on 28 April 2006. Auditions are held in various parts of Tamil Nadu, India. The show attracts many kids from all over the state and rigorous multi-level selection procedures are done in order to select the contestants for the competition.

The third season of Airtel Super Singer Junior - Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal premiered on 17 October 2011 and 26 October 2012. The music competition reality TV show was again telecast on Vijay TV, and Bharti Airtel returned to sponsor the show. Episodes were telecast between Monday to Friday each week at 9:00pm. Children from the age of 6 years to the age of 14 years were permitted to audition to showcase their talent on Vijay TV's platform. Airtel Super Singer 5Thamizhagathil Brahmaanda Kuralukkaana Thedal, the fifth season of the Airtel Super Singer show, is a reality-based Indian singing competition in Tamil language that aired on Vijay TV. Over eighteen years, Kalakka Povathu Yaaru? has rolled out nine seasons. The winners of the show are awarded the title of Comedy King and cash prizes. The first season was premiered on 2005.

Kings of Comedy Juniors is a 2017-2018 Indian Tamil language children stand-up comedy reality television show, which airs on Vijay TV. Erode Mahesh is also known for his Tamil phrase, Adra Adra when encouraging the performers in television shows.

Mr. and Mrs. Chinnathirai is an 2019 Indian Tamil-language reality television show airs on Star Vijay and streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. Over three years, Mr. and Mrs. Chinnathirai has rolled out four seasons and Ma Ka Pa Anand continued as a host for four seasons. and Aranthangi Nisha continued as a host for three seasons. Devadarshini and Gopinath Chandran as the judges for four seasons.

Oo Solriya Oo Oohm Solriya is an 2022 Indian-Tamil language Quiz reality television show airs on Star Vijay and streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.

Super Singer Season 9 is a 2022-2023 Indian Tamil-language reality television singing competition show. The ninth season of Super Singer, which airs on Star Vijay and streams on Disney+ Hotstar, telecasts every Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 PM, which started from 19 November 2022. MRF Vapocure Paints is the main sponsor for this season.

Start Music is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language Musical reality show that airs on Star Vijay and digitally streams on Disney+ Hotstar. The show has had four seasons with Priyanka Deshpande has continued as a host for three seasons and Ma Ka Pa Anand has as a host for third season. The first season was premiered on 26 May 2019.

Super Singer Junior Season 9 is the ninth season of the Indian Tamil-language music competition reality television show Super Singer Junior, that launched on 8 July 2023 on Star Vijay. This reality television show streams on Disney+ Hotstar on every Saturday and Sunday at 18:30. Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande return as hosts for the ninth season of Super Singer Junior.
