The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. The tournament was the second to feature a 24-team format. Colombia had been originally chosen to host the competition by FIFA but, largely due to economic reasons, was not able to do so, and resigned in 1982. Mexico was selected as the new host in May 1983, and became the first country to host the World Cup more than once, after previously hosting in 1970.

Volker Beck is a German politician. From 1994 to 2017, he was a member of the Bundestag, the German federal parliament, for the Green Party. Beck served as the Green Party Speaker for Legal Affairs from 1994 to 2002, and as the Green Party Chief Whip in the Bundestag till 2013. He was also spokesperson for the Green Parliamentary Group for interior affairs and religion.

The 1984 UEFA Cup Final was an association football tie played on 9 May and 23 May 1984 to determine the champion of the 1983–84 UEFA Cup. The two-legged final was contested between Anderlecht of Belgium, who were defending champions, and Tottenham Hotspur of England. Tottenham won 4–3 on penalty kicks after the tie finished 2–2 on aggregate.

The 1983–84 DFB-Pokal was the 41st season of the annual German football cup competition. It began on 16 August 1983 and ended on 31 May 1984. In the final Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 8–7 on penalties to take their seventh title. It was the first time the cup final was decided by a penalty shootout. Controversy raged after the penalty shoot out. Lothar Matthäus was playing his last game for Moenchengladbach before his big Summer move to Bayern. He stepped up to take the first penalty for Borussia and missed. Loyal Borussia fans claimed foul. This was later denied by Matthäus.

Bayern Munich won the match 7–6 on penalties against Borussia Mönchengladbach, following a 1–1 draw after extra time, to claim their seventh cup title.

The 1981–85 Nordic Football Championship was the 13th Nordic Football Championship staged. Four Nordic countries participated: Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Denmark won the tournament, its third Nordic Championship win.
The 1981–82 season was FC Dinamo București's 33rd season in Divizia A. Dinamo dominated both national competitions, winning the tenth championship title and the fourth Romanian Cup. The UEFA Cup season brings some great wins for Dinamo. The red-whites meet Levski Sofia, team of Sirakov and Iskrenov. In the second round, a terrifying "double": Dinamo-Internazionale. At Milan, 1-1 and back home in Bucharest, 3-2 for the "dogs", in the extra time! Dinamo is eliminated by the Swedish team IFK Göteborg, managed by Sven-Göran Eriksson, which later ends up winning the trophy.
