The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. The tournament was the second to feature a 24-team format. Colombia had been originally chosen to host the competition by FIFA but, largely due to economic reasons, was not able to do so, and resigned in 1982. Mexico was selected as the new host in May 1983, and became the first country to host the World Cup more than once, after previously hosting the 1970 edition.

The 1982 European Super Cup was contested between the European Cup holders Aston Villa and the Cup Winners' Cup holders Barcelona. The match took place over two legs in January 1983. The first leg was won by Barcelona 1–0 at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, but Aston Villa won 3–0 at Villa Park after extra time to take a 3–1 aggregate win.
The 1985 UEFA Cup Final was a football tie played on 8 May and 22 May 1985 between Real Madrid of Spain and Videoton of Hungary. Real Madrid won 3–1 on aggregate. Real would later make this a cup-double, by winning the Copa de la Liga on 15 June after another two-legged final, against their cross-town rivals Atlético Madrid.

Group E of the 1986 FIFA World Cup was one of the groups of nations competing at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. The group's first round of matches began on 4 June and its last matches were played on 13 June. Matches were played at the Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro and at the Estadio Neza 86 in Nezahualcóyotl. Impressive debutantes Denmark topped the group - surprisingly beating Germany 2-0 despite having a man sent off: they were joined in the second round by West Germany who would go on to reach the final. 3 red cards were handed out in this group, 2 of them against Uruguay who made the second round but were criticized for their physical play, especially in their last group game against Scotland where José Batista was sent off in under a minute. Scotland Manager Sir Alex Ferguson made the surprise decision to leave out captain Souness and passed responsibility on to Strachan and Albiston, a move with which Ferguson would later recall "his biggest mistake in football" despite being a man up, Scotland was unable to score, the match finishing 0-0, and Uruguay went through in third place instead.
Mohammed Hameed Farhan is an Iraqi football goalkeeper who currently plays for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in Iraqi Premier League and the Iraq national team. He was the team captain in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Farhan is best known, however, for receiving a life-time ban from international games by FIFA in 1983, after he assaulted referee Alexis Ponnet during a match with Kuwait at the World Military Cup.
Juan Martínez Munuera is a Spanish football referee who officiates in La Liga. He has been a FIFA referee since 2015, and is ranked as a UEFA second category referee.
