Brazil competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. This was the nation's nineteenth appearance at the Summer Olympics, excluding the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The Brazilian Olympic Committee sent the nation's largest ever delegation in history to the Games. A total of 243 athletes, 124 men and 119 women, competed in 24 sports.
Brazil competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. 182 competitors, 132 men and 50 women, took part in 107 events in 23 sports. Brazilian Team has conquered only 3 medals in Barcelona. It was the lowest number since Montreal 1976, but unlike Montreal, two of the three medals were gold and this is also until the date of the games the best result of the country, as the Barcelona Games was the first without boycotts since the Mexico City games in 1968.
Brazil competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. 225 athletes – 159 men, 66 women – competed in 18 sports. The country set a record with both 15 medals – only surpassed in 2008 – and 3 golds – surpassed in 2004 with five.
The men's water polo tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics was held from 1 to 10 August 1992, in Barcelona, Spain. Reigning world champion Yugoslavia had qualified for the tournament, but as it had formally dissolved in the interim, it did not participate. The successor countries did not participate for several reasons. The position of Yugoslavia was replaced by Czechoslovakia.

Teams already qualified for the event were not eligible to play in the following qualification tournaments.
The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men's Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournaments, also known as FIVB Tokyo Volleyball Qualification, were the six volleyball tournaments that were contested by 24 men's national teams of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), where the top teams earned a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics. The tournament was held from 9 to 11 August 2019.
