Origins of WJER
Jeremiah E. Reeves, for which WJER is named, was a member of one of the most influential families in Tuscarawas County, starting several major industries, banks and hotels in the Dover-New Philadelphia area. After his death in 1920, the Reeves family continued the leadership traditions begun by Jeremiah.
Following World War II, the United States government saw the need to increase radio reach to citizens in rural as well as urban population centers, and many new AM stations were created. Jeremiah's daughter, Agnes (Reeves) Greer, filed for ownership of a new radio station for Dover, Ohio and was granted the license in 1949. As a tribute to her father, she requested the call letters for the station that were her father's initials, Jeremiah E. Reeves, or "JER".
On Wednesday, February 22, 1950 at 6 a.m., WJER Radio began broadcasting operations in the present studio facility at 646 Boulevard, a parcel of land that was part of the Reeves family estate. The 175-foot "original" tower was erected on land with five miles of copper wire buried beneath its surface.
WJER-FM was granted a license and began broadcasting in 1969 on 101.7. Originally, the FM station programmed "beautiful music" and was popular in doctor's offices and in elevators. As time went by WJER put more emphasis on the FM station, going "live" full-time by 1992. Both stations were locally-owned by Gary Petricola until 2003, when he sold them to Clear Channel Communications. Petricola, however, continued to operate WJER-AM-FM in a reverse LMA with Clear Channel.
In 2006, Petricola's WJER Radio, LLC later repurchased the AM from Clear Channel for $200,000.
Relocation of the FM signal
On April 14, 2006, the Federal Communications Commission approved Clear Channel's request to move WJER-FM's community of license to North Canton, Ohio . The new location allowed the station to increase its power from 3,000 watts ERP to 6,000 watts ERP after the move.
In a gradual process, the stations began simulcasting for most of the broadcast day, a process which completed in December 2006.
WJER-FM signed off on December 27, and the license was transferred to North Canton, Ohio under the new callsign WHOF the next day. WJER continued to broadcast the original Dover/New Philadelphia-based programming.
Clear Channel signed on WHOF as adult contemporary-formatted "My 101.7" serving the Akron/Canton area on January 16, 2007.
Effective June 1, 2022, WJER and translator W265DL were sold to Kevin Gray's WJER, LLC for $300,000.
WCPZ – branded Mix 102.7 – is a commercial hot adult contemporary radio station licensed to Sandusky, Ohio, serving Ohio's Vacationland region.
WQAL is a commercial radio station licensed to Cleveland, Ohio, featuring a hot adult contemporary format known as "Q104". Owned by Audacy, Inc., the station serves Greater Cleveland and surrounding Northeast Ohio. WQAL's studios are located at the Halle Building in Downtown Cleveland, while the station transmitter resides in the Cleveland suburb of North Royalton. In addition to a standard analog transmission, WQAL broadcasts over three HD Radio channels, and is available online via Audacy.
WAKS is a commercial radio station licensed to Akron, Ohio, known as "96.5 KISS-FM" and featuring a top 40 (CHR) format. Owned by iHeartMedia, WAKS's studios are located at the Six Six Eight Building in downtown Cleveland's Gateway District, and its transmitter resides in Brecksville; because of this, the station is recognized as a Cleveland radio station serving Greater Cleveland and much of surrounding Northeast Ohio.
WKRC is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Cincinnati, Ohio. The station airs a talk radio format, under the branding of "55KRC". Studios are on Montgomery Road in Cincinnati. WKRC operates at 5,000 watts by day and 1,000 watts at night, from a transmitter site in Cold Spring, Kentucky.
WRQK-FM is a commercial radio station licensed to serve Canton, Ohio, featuring a mainstream rock format known as "Rock 106.9". Owned by iHeartMedia, the station serves both the Canton and Akron metro areas and is the local affiliate for The House of Hair with Dee Snider. WRQK-FM's studios are in North Canton, while the transmitter is in Canton. In addition to a standard analog transmission, WRQK-FM broadcasts in HD Radio, and is available online via iHeartRadio.
WILB is an AM radio station in Canton, Ohio. It is owned by Living Bread Radio and it airs Catholic radio programming to the Canton, Akron and Cleveland areas. Most of the station's programming is supplied by EWTN Radio. All shows are simulcast on co-owned 89.5 WILB-FM in Boardman.

Nassau Broadcasting Partners LP was a company based in Princeton, New Jersey that owned radio stations in New England and the Mid-Atlantic United States. Nassau's stations, which included both AM and FM frequencies, were located in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The company was owned and headed by Louis F. Mercatanti. Nassau was predominantly an operator of radio stations in medium and small markets. Nassau formerly owned radio station WCRB in Waltham, a Boston suburb, and located in the Boston market, the 11th largest radio market in the US, according to BIA Financial Network. However that station was sold to WGBH in 2009. Nassau operated radio stations in substantially all of the major formats. The company's most common format was classic rock/classic hits. On October 13, 2011 Nassau Broadcasting entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after their senior lenders petitioned for an involuntary Chapter 7 liquidation in September. The stations were auctioned to various bidders in May 2012 subject to bankruptcy judge and FCC approval. Nassau's last station, WPLY in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, lost its license in 2014 after having shut down in 2011.
WHOF is a commercial radio station licensed to North Canton, Ohio, carrying a classic hits format known as "Sunny 101.7". Owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., the station serves both the Canton and Akron metro areas and is the local affiliate for syndicated personalities Ron Wilson and Jim Brickman. WHOF's studios are located in North Canton, while the station transmitter resides in Canton. In addition to standard analog transmission, WHOF broadcasts over two HD Radio channels, and is available online via iHeartRadio. WHOF's HD2 digital subchannel features a country format under the brand "99.7 Canton's New Country", and is relayed over Canton-licensed low-power translator W259BW.
WESC-FM is a commercial radio station in Greenville, South Carolina, serving the Upstate region, including Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson, South Carolina, as well as Asheville, North Carolina. It airs a classic country radio format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The station goes by the name "92.5 WESC" and its slogan is "Carolina's Best Country And Your All-Time Favorites". iHeart owns three country stations in the market: WSSL-FM 100.5 has a contemporary country format, while WESC 660 AM and WESC-FM 92.5 simulcast classic country hits.

WMVO – branded as "Oldies WMVO" – was a commercial oldies radio station licensed to serve Mount Vernon, Ohio. It also operated a translator signal on 100.9 MHz at the same landmark site: "Radio Hill". The station was a full-service oldies station that also featured assorted talk and sports programming. WMVO was also an ABC News Radio affiliate.
KZSJ is a commercial radio station licensed to San Martin, California. It has a radio format of music and talk in Vietnamese and Korean, serving San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley. The station is currently owned by Bustos Media. Programming is produced by Quê Hương Media, which used to air on a digital subchannel of KAXT-CD.
