WKUE (90.9 MHz) is a public, non-commercial FM radio station licensed to Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The station is owned by Western Kentucky University, and is part of the WKU Public Radio Network. The transmitter is located off North Dixie Highway {U.S. Route 31W) in Elizabethtown, with the signal reaching into the southern suburbs of Louisville. [2]

Programming

WKUE airs news and informational programming on weekdays, with classical music heard at night. Weekends feature informational shows by day, with jazz on Saturday nights and specialty music programs Sunday evenings. Saturdays and Sundays at noon, Erika Brady hosts the "Barren River Breakdown" show. WKUE is an affiliate of National Public Radio, with shows from American Public Media and the Public Radio Exchange also heard.

History

On October 15, 1990, WKUE first signed on. [3] This was ten years after primary station WKYU-FM came on the air in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Since its founding, WKUE has simulcast programming from WKYU-FM.

WKU Public Radio

WKU Public Radio is the public radio service of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is a division of the Department of Information Technology at WKU. The network consists of four FM radio stations and one FM translator. Combined, the stations cover most of Western Kentucky and parts of Indiana and Tennessee, reaching into the northern suburbs of Nashville.

KXPR is a classical music-formatted radio station in the Sacramento, California, area. The station is closely linked to sister-station KXJZ, and the two stations are known as Capital Public Radio. In 2006 the stations swapped signals to their current configuration. The swap marked a return of sorts to KXPR's roots; in 1979, the station had originally signed in at 88.9 FM before moving to 90.9 in 1984.
