History

After the formation of Maharashtra state, the government of Maharashtra constituted a "Board of Industrial Development" (BID) on 1 October 1960, under the chairmanship of Shri. S. G. Barve. The committees recommendations received in the industries department were taken up for implementation. As per the Borkar Committee's recommendations, development of Ulhas Valley Water Supply was entrusted to the Board of Industrial Development (BID). The BID framed the legislation; it was introduced before the state legislation and passed in the form of "Maharashtra Industrial Act" which gave birth to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), as a separate corporation on 1 August 1962. [1] A small ceremony at Wagle Estate, Thane, under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Shri Yashwantrao Chavan, marked the birthday of MIDC on 1 August 1962.The wagle industrial estate once hosted many factories like Caprihans, Bellows,Bush radio,Bradma,Firth India, Bombay beer, Tata Lippert, Surendra Forgings and many which are closed now.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) is an Indian city planning agency and richest government authority in India which is formed and controlled by the Government of Maharashtra. CIDCO was formed on 17 March 1970 under the Indian Companies Act of 1956; its purpose at the time of its creation was to develop a satellite town to Mumbai, Maharashtra, and now functioning as New Town Development Authority (NTDA) and Special Planning Authority (SPA) of Government of Maharashtra for development of new towns by planning and developing entire urban infrastructure, providing municipal services, executing large scale infrastructure projects including Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Navi Mumbai Metro.
