The Central Business District of Belapur (C.B.D Belapur) is an upmarket node of Navi Mumbai. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is headquartered in Belapur. The Reserve Bank of India maintains a branch office at CBD Belapur. This area is one of the fastest developing regions in Navi Mumbai in terms of new residential and commercial construction projects.[ citation needed ] CBD Belapur is connected to other parts of Mumbai through railways, BEST & NMMT buses. It had a ferry service for traveling to Elephanta caves from Sector-11.

CBD Belapur is a Central Business District of Mumbai Metropolitan Region after Vashi, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Nariman Point and Worli.

CBD Belapur has been growing since the 1990s,[ citation needed ] and is now home to colleges as well as a number of technology businesses.

History

The area near Belapur was under Portuguese rule around 1560, before it was captured by the Siddis of Janjira. In those days, the town was called Belawal by the locals, and Sambayo or Shabaz by the Portuguese. In 1682, the Portuguese recaptured Shabaz, only to lose it to the Marathas in 1733. In 1817, the British East India Company captured the area from the Marathas. It is the southernmost town in the Thane district as well as the Thane taluka.

Economy

CBD Belapur houses several economic and government administrative and private companies' offices (including government offices and banks). Konkan Bhavan building houses several state government offices, like the Director of Town Planning and Public Works Department. The CGO Complex (Central Government Office) has offices of Chief Commissioner of Central Exice, Special Crime Branch, MTNL and Court. Other government offices include Cotton Corporation of India Ltd and the headquarters of Konkan Railway.

The Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Industrial Development Bank of India Limited (IDBI) and other nationalised banks have their presence here.

CBD Belapur is home to several call centres, including ChoiceConnex, Wipro BPO, Kaizen and SilkRoot. Belapur also has a Corporate office of India's leading staffing company Calibehr Business Support Service Pvt Ltd. ChoiceConnex specialises in out-bound sales for US, Australia and UAE and has started domestic operations as well.[ citation needed ] It has markets for local population in sectors 3, 4, 5 & 6. It has M.G.M. Hospital which covers the local population's medical need with a new charitable hospital, Acharyashri Nanesh Hospital, situated in the artist village within Belapur. It has a number of restaurants and recreational grounds such as Sunil Gavaskar Maidan. International Technology Centre at the CBD Belapur railway station complex was built by CIDCO as an Infotech hub.

Transport

CBD belapur is going to be connected soon by the new international airport, Navi Mumbai International Airport(NMIA). CBD Belapur is accessible from other parts of Navi Mumbai and from Mumbai by road and rail transport facilities. Belapur railway station lies on the harbour line and Sion Panvel Highway passes through this node. Palm Beach Marg connects CBD Belapur directly with Vashi. Railway service is up to Panvel.

BEST buses are available from CBD Belapur to Vashi, Chembur, Sion, Bandra, Ghatkopar and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. NMMT AC and Non-AC buses are available from CBD Belapur to Vashi, Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Uran, Ulwe, Taloja, Kalamboli, Panvel, Khopoli, Chembur, Sion, Bandra, Nariman Point, Powai and Borivali. Auto rickshaws is the primary mode of transport within the node owing the small area occupied by the node.[ citation needed ] Metro is going to start in Belapur from Belapur to Taloja

Nature

Belapur is surrounded by greenery [1] and it is much more organized than other parts of Navi Mumbai.[ clarification needed ] There are a couple of waterfalls situated in sector 8B, where people come for trekking and nature trails. This area is called Artist Colony where you will find amazing natural space to chill out with your dear ones near waterfalls and pond. There are other open spaces in and around Belapur such as Mango garden, Belapur Jetty, Belapur Fort, Parsik Hills and much more to explore around Nerul and Kharghar as well.[ citation needed ]

Nightlife

Belapur has a variety of options in the nightlife and it is crowded with lounges and popular cafes of Navi Mumbai. It has the largest no. of high end restaurants than any other node of Navi Mumbai.[ citation needed ] Belapur is famous for TLS (Tales OF Tavern) Night Club and Lounge

Kalamboli is one of the nodes of Navi Mumbai in Raigad District. It is a transportation hub, being situated at the junction of the Sion-Panvel Highway, NH 48, Panvel By-Pass, NH 66 and Mumbai-Pune Expressway and is among the biggest iron and steel delivery centers in India. The township, like the rest of Navi Mumbai, is divided into sectors, which are further divided into plots. The residential and commercial areas of Kalamboli are divided by the NH 4 highway. The Sion Panvel Expressway is a 25 km Indian highway located entirely in the state of Maharashtra, that connects Sion in Mumbai with Panvel, via Navi Mumbai. The National Highway 4 and Mumbai-Pune Expressway begin at the eastern end of the expressway, at Kalamboli junction, near Panvel. Navade node is a small node developed by CIDCO with single point access to the node. It is like a small township with 165 plots and approx 80-90 buildings. It's a part of Navi Mumbai city. Construction in this area is in developing stage and good properties are available. It has got good transportation facility from Panvel via six seater rickshaw and 73 numbered route of NMMT bus, KDMT bus nos. 20 & 70, and from CBD Belapur, NMMT bus nos. 71 and 72. There is also an auto rickshaw stand in Navade. It has close proximity to Kharghar node of CIDCO with Navade village falling in Kharghar sec 45. Also close proximity to Kalamboli. D Mart is 1 km from Navade node and Reliance Smart 0.5 km. Navi Mumbai Metro line 1 phase 2 will be passing through Navade road and shall have interconnection with Navade railway station. Panvel–Virar local train which is approved from the government and the work is expected to start soon. There are many prominent buildings like Devdrishti, Dev Aashirwad, Neelkamal, Keshav Garden, Laxmi Kalash CHS etc. Navade colony is on NH4 highway and connects to Sion Panvel Expressway via Taloja link road. Usually there is heavy traffic of trailers and trucks due to JNPT, oil refineries as well as, nearby MIDC area, but once the NH4 road widening and flyover is completed and proposed service roads are constructed, much lighter traffic is expected. There is also smell problem from nearby Taloja MIDC for which Navade and Kharghar/Kalamboli residents are fighting. Nearby Kasadi river is passing through Navade node but this river has contaminated water and the aqua life is totally dead due to careless attitude of the factories in Taloja MIDC. Recently CIDCO had started to construct a holding pond in Navade near Devdrishti apartment but left it half done after some works. The internal roads have been in too poor state waiting for the awarded contractor to start construction work. CIDCO has developed a beautiful garden with children play area with slides and other equipments. Although small, this garden is having a jogging track, benches and lush green lawn. Unlike other CIDCO nodes. There is an indoor playzone and family entertainment zone named "Happy Town." recently open in Navade where families can spend their time instead of going far for malls. There are plots reserved for Police station, market, temple and post office but is not at all developed from CIDCO. Every Thursday and Saturday there is market which sells vegetables, household items, clothes, bags, shoes etc. Almost all types of shops are opened in Navade node and it is self contained with very less dependency of travelling to other nodes. Also there is one 6 bed full-fledged hospital Anand Hospital in Navade apart from various clinics. Heavy vehicles and trailers are parked illegally at the internal roadside for which government should take action to avoid inconvenience to Navade residences.

The Vikhroli-Kopar Khairane Link Road (VKLR), also known as the JVLR-Kopar Khairane-Ghansoli Bridge, is a proposed 7.5 km to 10 km, freeway grade road bridge connecting the Indian city of Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, its satellite city. The new link road would start at Eastern Express Highway (EEH) where Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) ends in Vikhroli, then cross Thane Creek and Harbour railway line and will terminate at Kopar Khairane in Navi Mumbai before ending on Thane-Belapur Road. The link would be a six-lane road of about 10 km in length including a 2-kilometre-long (1.2 mi) bridge over the Thane Creek. At present motorists have to take either the Vashi Bridge or Mulund-Airoli Link Road to go to Navi Mumbai and Pune. The new road will help motorists save time and fuel. The project is estimated to cost around ₹ 550 to 1200 crore. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) appointed N P Bridging, as designing consultants for the project, which was supposed to submit the final report on the link road by mid-September 2016.
